What I'm doing:

1: "couch to 5 k" running plan. Modifying it to increase the stress a bit, trying to do 2 sessions each day, 3 days a week.

2: low carb semi-paleo diet with varying degrees of food control as I figure out what makes me feel like shit. That may very well end up with me eating leafy greens with no dressing and meat. Hellifiknow.

2A: This is the hardest one for me. This is going to kill me- I have a lot of life stress and one of the ways I deal with it is having a plate of munchies at midnight when I am finally alone for 30 minutes with no interruptions. so this one hurts, but: No food after 22:00

2B: I drink coffee. all day, every day. sometimes it makes me sleepy. I drink it black. I'm cutting down to 1-2 cups a day in the AM.

3: Biking on off days. Attempting to make that 20km a day, that may go up or down, it's very low impact but is just moving my body for an hour. I may or may not do shorter rides and add up the total distance for the day. I may or may not make that seven days a week.

4: already quit smoking. limiting drinking to "holiday" occasions, and only wine or mead. I love my beer and I love making it, but for now only Koyote Girl is going to be benefiting.

5: morning yoga/stretching/situps. Haven't figured out my plan for that yet. I have been able off and on to get time to do 3 sun salutations and 5-10 minutes of isolated stretches.

6: Weights- free weight work on running days. Yesterday I started with a light familiarization routine, 3 sets of 8 tri dips and 3 sets of 8 full press cycles (squat, grab bar, stand, curl, press all the way up, down to back of shoulders, press up again, down to curl position, down to stand, squat.) and 3 sets of 10 pushups.

6A: I'm going to be adding to this as I go, post especially with pullups and tri dips and more weight.

Goals:
to fit into size Medium BDU pants.
to pull ten miles march/doubletime in 2 hours.
to do 3 sets of ten pullups.

Ok Here's my work out for the month of July
I'm not participating but will vampire off your collective motivation to help get myself into better shape I'll be designing and posting a workout for myself everymonth as we go.. feel free to use it if you like but consult a physican and a lic. trainer if you have any questions.
THis work out is done for time.. which means I try to complete it in as little time as possible, you don't have to complete all reps in one burst, but keep in mind that it resting will cut into your o/a time. if I can breeze through all reps than I tailor them to make them harder
Warmp up:
25 pullups
50 Jump squats
50 pushps ( tailored to mak emore difficult)
50 v-ups
50 dips (using bars not bench dips)
50 dumbell front swings (25 each arm using a 40 lb dumbell)
25 chinups.
warm down and stretch when done.
my record time is 27 minutes but I average around 30 min 3x a week videos of less common excercises are posted below.

Well, I might be out of this one, seeing how I'll be laid out for the next 4-6 weeks. then again I just might make a 4th quarter comeback when I get better...
So, no update for me, in fact I'm trying not to go in the opposite direction.

Sting Ray I hope you make a helathy strong comeback and rock this competition bro.. Feel better...

Good job bro. I quit smoking about 2 weeks ago and this contest is forcing me to keep off of them. I went ahead and cut fast food and soft drinks out of the diet, switching over to grilled chicken and iced tea. I forsee that getting old damn quick. I am down already to about 258 from 270 a few weeks ago. I am hoping to drop another 30-odd before this is over with...

That's a great workout RR ... pretty much covers everything

Okay I am in on this.

As of seconds ago...I am 5' 9" @ 240#. also 42 years old.

Since the teaser for this went up a couple of weeks ago I have increased my time on the treadmill or actually walking the neighborhood to 1 hour and 15 minutes which gets me between 3-4 miles.

My knees hurt, and I probably need new shoes.

Hitting the gym twice a week now, as opposed to just once and going for reps as opposed to max weight.
Max reps @ 135# bench press so far is 17, working on more. Curls, Lat pull downs, Tricep extensions, and crunches are all part of it. 100 reps each...no matter how many sets to get there.

I am the most inflexible person I know. Yoga is now part of the routine...every Wednesday...

More details to come...as well as a long term goal.

Thanks for the motivation.

p.s. Same pic as before as its only two weeks old. I'm the one on the left.

Congrats on quitting! I'm about to lose a cousin to smoking so it brightens my day every time I hear about someone giving it up.

Thanks for doing this Jay! I recall your supportive email a while back helping me get started.

I'm in. For most of my life I have been painfully underweight, and was always trying to gain weight. One day when I was about 27, I looked in the mirror and saw a fat guy staring back at me! I've lost and gained this weight several times since then on various diets.

I got serious at the beginning of May when I had to admit I was unfit for a job because I was too out of shape. I weighed 240 lbs, exactly a hundred pounds MORE than when I graduated from high school! As of that moment, I have been serious! Food is judged not by how satisfying it will be, but rather what it will do FOR me. I track absolutely everything I eat and am currently restricting my daily intake to 1800 calories. I started a Body fo LIFE challenge on June 1, doing weight training 3 days a week and have been riding my bike about 20 miles, 6 days a week.

As of this morning I weighed 214 lbs, meaning I have lost 28 lbs since May 1. That is nearly half way to my goal of 180 by the start of elk season on September 8.

I can't bring myself to post my official "before" picture yet, but here is a picture from March or April.

Congrats on that, bro. I'm well over a month smoke-free myself, so I can literally feel your pain. Wait until your sense of smell/taste start to really come back. It's crazy.

What up fellas.

Here's my stats:
5'10"
195lbs
I'm currently in a 34W jeans but they are damn tight.

I haven't done anything different today except focus on caloric intake for the day.

This picture makes me want to drink a beer... er.... work out I mean :)

I want a rib cage tattoo and need to look good enough to get one.

These pics were taken on 6/30

I just started back jogging after, well I don't remeber when. A couple of co-workers have had success using Body for Life, and Crossfit. So my plan is to try a mixture of both. Try eating recommendations from Body for Life and do some Crossfit workouts along with cardio. Last time I did Crossfit workouts I could tell a difference, but I was sore a lot. Starting at 5'9" and 176 lbs. 34" waist

Here's a photo from last week.

I don't know why the photo's not showing up. I'm out of town for a few days, and I'll try again when I get home. (I did post it in the other thread, look at your own risk)

Cool deal! That should help...

Alright lets see....

June 02, 2009. 165lb, 6'0". By January I hope to be 195lb and 6'2". This might be a little ambitious so as long as I can get to a lean 185lb and not get any shorter I'll be happy.

I just started going to the gym. Focusing on core strength so squats, bench press, clean n press, dead lifts, rows/chin ups and ab exercises are my staples. Puked hard after my first work out, and would have after the second had I eaten before hand. Thats a sign that your gettin' er done.

I'm going to be off to a bad start though, I'm leaving for China in a few days, so for at least a month I'm going to be a gluttonous drunkard and I'll probably take up smoking. Consider that a head start fellas, cause I'm coming for that gunny!
