• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

My Custom Knife design seeking input

Most military issue knives are indeed 5-7 inches. However during my service with /force Recon in the USMC most all of use carried larger knives, as do most of the SERE cadre. The large fixed blade is generaly backed up by a small fixed blade or folder.

One of my favorite knives ever carried for this purpose is my Himlayan Imports M-43 Kukri.

However for the most part an 8"-10" blade is great as well as being easier to carry. This size blade allows the chopping and cutting of larger poles for shelter construction, as well as being easy to baton with. My most often carried blades in this range are either of my two bowies by G.L. Drew or my Koster Survivor (I prefer the bowies). I have one on order from Tad Lynch which wont be here till around Sept.

I am a forged blade fan indeed. Most all my blades except 3 are forged construction.

If you run a search on Tad Lynch or Lynch MOB youll find a thread where another member reviews a knife he has just recieved. Should give you some additional ideas.

I would post the thread but have no idea how to do so.

Excellent choice - I have one on order myself. ;)

that looks sweet..that's the kind of guard/bolster i want i think.

Man, i need to pick the size for this project. Maybe 8.5" blade. This is tough. I went from 7.5 to 8 just an hour ago...

Lotus03 that is half the joy of a custom knife project. Coming up with the design, then finding a maker, then waiting for it be finished up and arrive.

Kinda like waiting for a child to be born. Heck it can even be as expensive.

8.5" is a good size.

The one I have on order is a 10" blade, but that is just because I like that size blade.

I'm hooked already and will never look back. I did well with my kitchen setup but that's it. Looks like the Jeep is gonna get a little less love for a while....

honestly I have about 4 i want right now including a kukri. But for this one there's a lot I like about the one I pasted in the website but that's not forged.
