My DAD wants a knife!

Hi. I showed dad these knives you have suggested. He REALLY likes the kershaw nakamura a whole lot. He also thought the Gravitator was cool. He is worried the gravitator blade may not be good for general utility, he thinks the kershaw would do better. Any thoughts? I really like the nakamura myself. Maybe we could each get one, and trade off.....

Show him the Benchmade 960-Red in D2, it is a very nice knife and well under $200.00

Also, take a look at Mcusta knives, you can get a really nice damascus blade for around $165.00 (no clip though)

I find the blade on my Gravitator to be quite good at a lot of tasks, particularly anything involving the point. In fact, it may well be the knife that I have on me most often (albeit as a secondary blade) because the straight blade is no slouch, and it's got one of the best designs out there for point work (that swedge on the blade just after the thumb ramp makes for a great place to put your index finger in controlled tip work).

That being said, there are times when I've felt like that straight blade just gets in the way and have wished for something curved. If most of his cutting is with the tip, I'd probably say not to worry about it, otherwise a one-and-only knife to get for general utility should be something with a little belly.

I've never handled the Nakamura, but I would still recommend to show him the Benchmade Resistor. Its styling is very much like that of the Gravitator, but its blade is much better suited for general use.

get your dad the Doug ritter gripper large look up Doug ritter and when you find his site you can read about this knife Doug and bench made got together and made this knife i have two i also love the large skirmish id probably like the small as well this coming from a grandpa 13 times these are great knives not saying some of the other aren't good but i like these

SuperSteel no plastic handle
1. Mini Cyclone ZDP189.
2. Callipso ZDP - CF (is he consider it as a plastic?)
3. Military CF BG-42

Also you may check new MT Amphibian, steel may be not current super, but they have amaizing quality and glaas breaker as an additional safety option.

Thanks, Vassili.

Remember Nakamura has only 2.9" blade (Gravitator has 3.5" blade).

However, BM also produced BM426

It's based on Mike Snody's design:

if your dad likes some "bling" the Spyderco Spyker is worth checking out too...

Plenty of Mcustas do come with a clip and a good choice of scales and designs:thumbup:

Almost forgot - Fallkniven SGPS knives, TriCronor etc...

In general there are only four company which delivers top grade steel on US market (over 63HRC)
ZDP-189: William&Henry, Sypderco and Kershaw
SGPS: Fallkniven

There is very limited run of CPM S90V by Microtech, but it is impossible to get I guess.

W&H is too expensive so you may choose between Spyderco Calipso ZDP-189 CF, Kershaw MiniCyclone TiZDP189 and Leek TiZDP189 plust Fallkniven TriCronor line which has pretty nice handles and laminated SGPS blades. Soon Kershaw also came with SG2 Blur.

All other knive companies made good knives but not from supersteel.

I think as a present for your dad some Falkniven with fancy wood handle will be best choise!

may i suggest Kershaw Offset by Ken Onion. That knife is flashy in a brutal way and it costs around 180$

you baby girl talk like you know your way around flashy things...maybe it has to do something with your make-up choice?:p

Another nod to the BM 960 in red. I love mine. If you want to up your price limit a teensy bit you could get a Klotzli... they are gorgeous knives. Here is another AG Russell pic...

Titanium and opal, ATS34 blade, pocket clip...

Well, it loooks like the Nakamura won! Dad loves the wood handle scales and of course the bolster. He says the size is perefect for his EDC. Does anyone know of anyplace besides knifekits to get the fancy thumbstuds with gem inlay? The shipping seems kinda high there for what I want.
