My Daddy's Boyhood Knife

I'm all teary-eyed right now just holding it. I sure do miss him.

Thanks, all.

Andy

andy,it's nice you have that of your dads.
my dad passed in 2001 on my daughters birthday.
i sure do miss him to.
you got me all teary now friend.
i always had him to call,or visit next door to ask those questions
i thought only he had the answers to.
i still feel that way.there are things about this world right now
that i have no one to ask opinions of other than him.
i trusted his opinion on everything.

thanks for sharing this, and that is really truely a special knife.
being his makes so much more so.

Just wanted to say that as great a gift as this was, what's even better to me is the reverence shared by you and others for fathers and grandfathers now gone. I can only hope and aspire to be worthy of the same from my children someday. Thanks.

i could not have said it better.
just hope my kids look up to me that way when there
older.

Nice to hear, thanks for the post. I like how that knife looks; in your situation I would sharpen and clean it up, maybe polish the blade, and carry it once in a while. Ill admit I am not a very sentimental person, but I see more value in using a tool that my father used compared to simply owning a tool my father used. His hand held the knife, sharpened it, got sweat onto it; it would be more intimate if you did the same once in a while.

Makes me wonder what someone might post 75 years from now. I am 23 and and usually carry a benchmade 530 (although right now I have a case tribal spear in pocket). Will it have sentimental value to my future kids? It is weird to think about.

Reminds me of an old cowboy bowie style knife.
I can empathize-my dad passed 8 days ago. Treasure it and cherish the memories.

WOW!!

How incredibly cool is it to have something like that as a keepsake.

Lock it up in a fireproof safe please!

Enjoy it and treasure it. A good idea would be to write a little bit about the knife and your dad on a sheet of paper and keep it with the knife. That way when you pass it on to someone they will know how important it is. Just an idea.

Wow Priceless! A knife with a family history like that can’t be priced, your holy grail of knives. Thanks for sharing. May we all look to our Fathers, Grandfathers with love and respect?
Bob
