i like the CE and I can't think of a better EDC for a newbie. I am saying you are a newbie but it is a good knife for newbies because it is a good all around knife. I have given a few of them away to my nephews as gifts in an effort to get them interested in knives.

OT, but were the efforts successful?

I think a plain edge is best for a newbie, unless said newbie has a sharpening kit/stone capable of sharpening SE.

I dig the CE blade. It is an "all-arounder"; great for those who have to tackle different cutting jobs throughout their day.

Great choice CML.

I don't think it's a good knife for a newbie, I think it's a good knife for anyone.
A real good allround user.
When you have one, the rest is for the fun of it, not for the need.
Enjoy yours.

combo edge aint that bad at all. its pretty useful. you can use those serrations on tougher things that you dont want to dull the plain edge part on, like zip ties, rope, etc. useful tool inmop.

I have 50+ folders that range from $10.00 to $580.00. My 11 year old Delica is still the one that sees most pocket time. The Delica is a classic knife that is an all around winner. The new Delica 4 is so solid and easy to EDC. It just meets so many needs. Enough said.

Zen, you speak wise words! Great first Spydie; It won't be your last!

That's a nice knife and thanks for sharing with us. The combo edge will come in very handy, you can keep it factory sharp with the Spyderco Sharpmaker.

Congrats on the "quintessential" D4.....an ideal pick for your first Spyderco experience (if that's the case).....

Hi C.M.L.

Thanx much for the confidence and support, and thanx also to the "opinionators".

The Delica4 is one of our best designs. It's been continually refined for 17 years which includes numerous improvements. Many suggested by our customers, you.

It was designed and built with passion, for reliable hi-performance, safety, legality and ergonomics, and it's realively bulletproof over the years.

(Sorry for the sales pitch :o )

Although I veer more towards traditional slipjoints&folders, my Delica4 CE is a much valued work-knife that I like to carry.

Modern, functional, well-made and safe to use. It's a knife that will see many years use, only one thing, I have the Foliage Green model and that out looks the black:D

Have to agree with everyone. D4 is a great knife and those steel liners work for me!
