I had been wanting to try my hand at putting a handle on a knife so I jumped on a blade from Bill Akers when he put a couple of DIY blades up for sale.
He offered them with some nice Walnut, but I had some old natural micarta I wanted to use so I got just the blade.
I had rehandled a Modified Tramontina machete & a Marbles machete so felt somewhat comfortable
giving this one a try.
I learned a lot from my mistakes on the machetes & got some great pointers from Chris Bowden(KFU) & reading other makers
wip threads.
I love orange in my knife handles so I ordered some 1/8" liners thinking it would complement the nat. mic. pretty good.
I also decided to make a sheath for it,(got it done today)again..orange,but instead of the normal bright orange,I found some burnt orange kydex.
The handle is a little short to be ideal, but I can get four fingers on it & it does feel pretty damn good in my hand.
I took it out last week end & did a little cutting with it with no problems.
I made a handle for the fire steel & a couple of beads with some of the scrap micarta.
The blade is 1095,1/8" thick & 7/8" high with a scandi grind.
The OAL is 7 1/2" with a 3 5/8" blade & 3 7/8 handle.
The pins are 1/4" brass tubes with 7/32 tubes & 3/16 black g9 rods epoxied in & a 1/4 brass lanyard tube.

I can't wait to do another handling.
What do ya'll think?
Pros & cons all welcome as I will be doing more when I can.

Very nicely done and yes, orange is great on a knife. BTW - where were the pictures taken? Looks like my old stomping grounds in the Olympic National Park.

Thanks utah.
Boy that does look like it could be the Hoh or Queets doesn't it,but it's in the opposite direction.
It's the Beckler river, just east of Skykomish on highway 2.

Ah yes, the Beckler River. Fished that much back in the 80's and really enjoyed it when we lived in Seattle. That's a great area.
