well purgatorry, CA is treating me right here.. smooth sailing and good time was to be had in vegas
smile.gif
sadly I heard a few days ago that my Dobruski Balisong was "detained" in memphis (hail to the king) and yesterday it was a confirmed confiscation.. Yep.. I guess the King wasnt watching over one of his fans

quite surprisingly I am not terribly angry.. I am not posting to whine but to warn others that customs really DO their job.. it was declared as collectible cutlery and undervalued. I dunno if that was the tip off or it was goign to a CA addy - or if one of my arch nemisii tiped them off..

if only it was a week earlier sent to my PA addy >_< CURSES!!

I wanted to thank Mr. Mauro who walked with me every step of the way and I never felt worried. THanks for your help sir.. I couldn't expect more from him.

it sucks but maybe you guys shoudl take care when ordering balis from overseas to CA. (but then again it WAS seized in Memphis).

Kinda sad but kinda excited.. whodul I upgrade to ivory handles ?

Sh1t that sucks! My biggest fear about buying from Dobruski has been realized. I wish I could do something for you to help out, $400 or so is nothing to sneaze at!!

Let's all chip in and buy her a 42!! Seriously, I'd chip in $10 to $20. How about anyone else?

I have a sword in my pocket!

S, I am so sorry, that's really to bad. I know that its not the same but I am finally going to get of my damn ass and send you your knife!!!! Its not ivory, and not from a famous known maker (not yet -- at least) but its still nice and made with love. I will contact you (or you can email me) and I will send it off. Maybe I can get some "mangies" while I'm at it, there just not the same here in CO.

Feeling your pain,
your friend,
M

S!

My heart for you!

I read somewhere here (was that you, John?) that effort is being pulled to declare balisong not a switchblade by the custom?

It should be more than RKBA, but RKBB!

Paul,

It is pitiful that this has happened.

We will study a form not to be in the damage.

Real bad thing what happened. But also a good lesson, some old chinese wise man would say.
From now on we will not sell butterflies to California, Massachusetts and New York State residents, unless they provide one
address outside their state. USA Customs informed us that they will confiscate and destroy all balis going to any of these states.
If you see anyone flipping a bali, in CA, MA or NY, ask him if he is a customs officer.

The good side is that we learned from it. The bali for Sniperboy will be replaced free of charges by Dobruski and me. We consider our fault not knowing about this restriction.
But it will be with white micarta again because ivory was banned from USA a few years ago. We do not want to send mastodon ivory because it may cause a discussion about being or not genuine mastodon or elephant ivory. To avoid problems, my dear Sniperboy will have to play with white micarta. By the way, white micarta is much more resistant than ivory and will last longer.

All others californian dreamers, I mean, clients, will be informed about this restriction, and they will have to decide whether they want to send to outside Ca address or have their orders canceled.
One last point, I and Dobruski, never considered the handmade balis as weapon but as collectible items only. All the art is in
the craftsmanship and classical (stag, wood, damascus) or modern (titanium, stainless steel, etc...) material used.

That's the pits S................I kinda feel guilty that I got mine
frown.gif
It sure sounded like it was a great piece.........IMHO you two guys are the epitome of the kind of wonderful people found in knifemaking. Even though 'Paul' is a most deserving forumite, as we all are
wink.gif
, replacing that knife at no charge is going way beyond the 'call of duty' and should place you two not only in the "BaliSong Lovers Hall of Fame" but way up there on the top of the people to deal with list.

Dobruski,

Your webpage seems to be down, help!! i wanna see these beautiful balis!

Sniperboy,

Wow, that really sucks. I feel for your loss.

Mauro, you guys are the greatest! Your offer to send S a new knife is outstanding. Getting one of your knives is definitely on my list of things to do this year...

And S... if you want a portrait of your new knife... why not have them send it to me for a photo shoot

Hey S..
Sorry about your balisong. Messers.Dubruski y Muchado, it seems that your designs could be sent blade and handles separately; would that clear customs?
Hey S, feel free to use my addy. I won't manipulate the knife before sening it to you(yeah right)

You guys .. (and girls .. S
wink.gif
) have just confirmed my feeling that bali lovers are not only great people .. but more than that. Words just can't convey .......

That specially goes to the two gentlemen from Brazil..

We should let the world know that balisong lovers are not the bad guys!!! And balisong causes more good (we get together, sharing the fraternity and just cause) than bad.

When I first heard of this travesty I assumed that someone in Customs just "seized" it for themselves, which has been known to happen. Then Mauro contacted me regarding my order and explained that Balis were restricted in NY State.

It all suddenly made sense in a bureaucratic manner that is neanderthal in concept: CA and NY prohibit Balisongs because they "flip" open so Customs "seizes" balisongs destined for California or New York. How brilliant is that? I am so glad that my tax dollars pay to keep an ever vigilant watch for high end pocket knives invading our borders.

Ark,

Just as I posted in another thread less than five minutes ago...

Isn't it pathetic that the most powerful Nation on the Planet Earth is scared to trust its' Citizenry with pocketknives?

They sure as hell want to be trusted, 100%, no questions asked though, don't they?

Don,

Yes.

I would love to sit down with lawmakers who are proponents of such laws and ask them to explain the legitimacy and rational of such laws using the clearly defined model of objective reasoning. Oh and statistics too. Two things that they should be familiar with if they had managed to stay awake in college.

I won't bother detailing the absurdity of a set of laws that bans a folding knife based on its method of opening and vilifies those who may find favor with such an "illegal" item. Nor will I digress by commenting on the fallacious reasoning that infected the minds of the lawmakers who drafted and amended such an irrational set of laws.

We have all gone over it a thousand times in our own minds then a thousand times again on the forums.

Right now I am feeling like I should have gone to law school.

Ark,

I'm thinking maybe I should have been next to you in law class.

Then I remember, almost every Politician is an Attorney and that is why alot of these laws exist to begin with, so these retched human beings can have some sense of worth, not to us, to each other. Their peers.

I fire hard on Attorneys sometimes, and they let me know in E-mail later.
