My dog is going under the knife today. . .

Glad Winston's surgery went well  ...And smoke rising from Penn's woods for a speedy & complete recovery. :)

I'm in a similar place right now. My 7 year old Bernese had ACL surgery two weeks ago and goes in to have his stitches removed tomorrow. Not sure which surgery Winston had. My Bernese, Cooper, had TPLO, which has a faster recovery time and is supposed to work better on the larger dogs. Since this surgery involves reshaping the bone, there is danger that he'll damage the bone if he gets too rambunctious. He's going to need the other knee done as soon as he can handle it. We'll see how it goes.

I wish Winston a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear about Winston.
I did the ACL bit last year. The guy in the ER that received me probably expanded his vocabulary a few four-letter words that night :o
Definitely pamper him for the time he is in there. It helps the healing a lot.

Glad to see all went well with the procedure.. I hope things continue to work out in Winstons favor.. Best wishes

Glad to hear it went well.

Keep an eye on those sutures when you can see them...if they get red/puffy/weepy at all, take the dog in to get them looked at.

My lab had a cancerous tumor on her back leg that they had to cut pretty deep to get rid of it, and even with an e-collar on she managed to lick at her stitches enough to infect em, and we had her put on a general antibiotic.

Thanks again to everyone for all the helpful advice and support:thumbup:. We took the soft cast off of him today (vet said within 24 hrs.) He did not like it at all. He is a very stubborn dog and did not like being held down while the wrapping was being taken off.
It was upsetting hearing the noises he was making and seeing him struggle around, but the vet also said that it was about 80-90% anxiety and whining since he gets his way all of the time. Time for him to go on a diet and take it easy indoors for awhile. Thanks again to everyone for all the warm wishes:thumbup:

Same thing happened to one of my dogs Really long recovery time and then slow and steady rehab is the key crateing seems cruel but keeping him not mobile is critical

Good to hear he's on the mend brother! A little filet mignon goes a looong way with ANY pooch lol ;)

Now this is a GREAT story that going to come to a better end!!! All the smoke and prayers from way up north Winston... Give that boy another treat.
