Clyde isn't doing so well. He takes medication for his heart and arthritis. On this past Saturday, I took him to the vet just to get him checked out and see if his arthritis medication could be increased or changed because after 2 months on Rimadyl, Clyde was again having trouble standing. Clyde has lost a pound in weight since his last visit but his temperature, heart and blood work was pretty good. Our walks lately had just been short ventures and lots of times Clyde wasn't up to going riding. Sunday morning I gave him his first dose of Previcox (replacing Rimadyl) for his arthritic pains and it seemed to help quite a bit. We took a walk around the block and then took our usual ride to the store for my coffee and he was fine! On Monday, he seemed to be doing fine. On Tuesday morning he was having trouble getting out of bed and I noticed he was not putting any weight on his rear right leg. When I left for work he settled into his spot on the couch to wait for me to come back home. When I came home he was limping badly and his rear right leg & foot were swollen to twice their normal size! It's now Wednesday and I've been up with Clyde since 2:30am and I'm taking him to the vet today. Please wish him good luck.

I took a pix of Clyde's back legs about 30 minutes ago. I don't know what is causing this but I'm leaning towards a broken leg or a reaction to the new medication. Again, he can use all the prayers you can send... thanks.

I hope the fellow does better. Dogs (and cats too, I rekon) can become as children. Often closer as they seem to cause much less heartache.
I went through this last year with one of my Sammies....:(

Something to think about: make sure he understands that he's done nothing "wrong". We've seen many greyhounds act "guilty" when they are sick or hurt because they think they are being "bad". Give him lots of extra love and attention, with a positive inflection in your voice.

Hope he gets better real soon. Sending positive thoughts his way.

Could that be some kind of fluid retention rather than swelling caused by an injury?

Here's hoping your bud starts feeling better.

Ohhh... :( The poor baby! :(

Please take him back to the vet. You've talked about him so much over the years that I feel like he's my friend. Please do whatever you can to help him. And give him plenty of hugs and kisses from me. :(

I'll pray for Clyde.

Clydetz, I am so sorry that Clyde isn't doing well!! My heart and prayers go out to you and Clyde. My dog Kirby says he wishes Clyde to get better soon too. He knows how you are worrying about him. I wish there was something I could do!!! Big prayers out to you both!! And hug to you both too.

You have nailed it, sir!

Thanks everyone! I called the vet at 8:30am and told him of Clyde's plight. He said... "How fast can you get here? I'll be here waiting!" I threw a comforter in the back of my truck and hauled ass! Clyde was crying a bit but we got there in one piece. The vet felt Clyde;s leg... "not hot so no infection; doesn't seem to be broken and I haven't heard of the medication causing this type of problem. Appears to be edema." Clyde received an injection and some more pills to take to rid him of this excess liquid buildup in his leg. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Clyde is resting now and I have to go into work for 1/2 a day. Please keep those prayers coming!

PM inbound to ya Clydetz...
He needs to get his leg radiographed. Something is impeding the lymphatics in that leg. I would not rule out infection, but you need to know what is going on with the bones in that leg.

More prayers sent!! I am concerend as to what caused the edema in the first place.
