My edc now has an HHT level 5 edge on it

Without the same hair ,same person same knife in the same steel we have no facts to base sharpness off of.

Like I said I can get a hair whittling edge but I can't whittle a hair . Hand the same knife to the wife and she'll do it all up and down the hair

Here is an example, hard to see the point right :D

I can honestly say I don't see a difference in cutting card board from hht 1 to a hht4 haven't cut any yet with the new edge but I will tomorrow. If anything I'd say the hht 1 could probably cut more cardboard but again you could take a knife that is super thin like your para 2 and have a good toothy working edge on it and not tell a difference between the 2. Maybe the hht 1 will seem to glide through it easier but over all you would be hard pressed to tell jmo

If you have not honed a straight razor then the whole HHT discussion is a moot point. I too once thought I brought a knife edge to HHT sharpness... then I honed a straight razor and felt stupid.

At the end of the day the knife is still sharp and once used any of that supreme sharpness that the knife began with is instantly stripped away on the first cut. Polishing knives can be fun and give a great sense of pride but remember it's just fot bragging rights, knives typically perform at a less than optimal level when mirror polished.
