In a recent post, I showed off my "Not So PSK" that I carry in my pack. Here is my actual PSK that is a spin off of the Altoids Tin sized kit. I wanted water resistance and found these Plano cases with a latex gasket. I was sold and my PSK was built around it. I've had this kit for over a year now and really like its size.

Included in this kit are

Reynolds oven bag cut down to fit.
4 MP1 Tabs

Photon Light
Skyblazer Mirror
Rescue Howler

Small Fishing Kit
Small Stainless Steel wire

Small Can Opener
Fresnel Lens
2 safety pins

Spark Lite
8 Tinder Quick Tabs
Small Bic Lighter

Button Compass
Scalpel blade
Ranger Band

Kevin,

Looks great. Have you seen that belt pouch from Best Glide (www.bestglide.com) that Mcgreggor (hope I didn't butcher his moniker) posted in the shoulder bag thread? It appears to be the right size for these types of kits... Thoughts

Don,

You're dead on buddy. I neutered a Ritter AMK Pocket Kit for some components for this one. While I like the pouch, this works out better for me.

As for the pouches, the Best Glide pouches are nice but most digital camera pouches can be used to carry an Altoids tin. Another option is the full-size Ipod carrier.

:D
close up of pouch, it is from best glide

That is the first generation pouch.
I reviewed it and the fellow that owns best glide came out with a second generation improved with my segestions.

Very nice kit you have there, I need to make myself a small edc one because mine is just big.

Kevin,

Thanks!

M22,

Sorry about butchering your moniker... Did your suggestions relate to the velcro closure?

It should be noted this is my 2nd to last line of defense gear. I keep some real last ditch equipment in my wallet that sits almost flat. This PSK is usually accompanied by my "not so PSK", my 10 essentials and my BRKT Fox River. Next line of gear after that is my daypack and so on.

Kevin,

Thanks!

Yes, I reccomended a snap button or a lift the dot closure. They went cheap and stuck with velcrow:grumpy:. I cant tell you how many times that thing has opened on me but its an easy fix.
Also, notice the loops on the side with my mini mag and balm on. In the 2nd gen version those are in the back, they were intended to be used with alice or molle systems.
He did change the zippers though.
The thing slides around abit(not on mine because its stuffed) and I segested 2 belt loops, he may or may not have changed this but I think he didnt.
Anyways its a well built pouch and currently the best thing on the market for the price($12).
I like it

I'll take a picture tomorrow when I have some better lighting. Think flat! What I carry can be carried in almost no space and is hardly noticeable.

Nice kit, the only thing I'd add is a buck hartsook,(awesome and tiny) and a couple of band aids maybe.
I have a couple of those scalpel blades, found it lying around in the hospital.:D
I like that plano case, are they easy to come by?

Just picked up one of those Plano cases at Sportsman's Warehouse. Comes in a pack of 3 (one undivided, one divided into 4 compartments, and one divided into 6 compartments), for $3.29. Hey Kevin, could you explode that fishing kit, so I can see the contents?

Raindog,

It is already repacked but I can tell you I have Spiderwire 50lb. test line, Gamakatsu Octopus Circle Hooks, Bait holder hooks, a few swivels a couple split shot and sewing needles.

Hope this helps.

It is the same diameter as 12 lb. monofilament. By far my favorite for PSK's. It is also some pretty nasty stuff if you aren't careful. I've used the 50lb. test on some big fish and when they tug, you better have gloves or a safe way of handling that line, the micro braid will slice right into your hands. For small fish, you can simply muscle them in and not worry about the line breaking. That is why I love it!
