My ESEE-4 Mods

That is a beautiful blade, great job. I bet it would great as well shaped like the factory scales with the lanyard hole exposed.

ManOfMisery,

I was thinking the same thing too, so made these to see which I like better.

You did a great looking set of grips! Have you thought of making a pair for sale? I am interested in a set for my RC-4!

Are they the same thickness as the standard scales? Do you have a shot from the top?

I made them 3/16", which from my analog calipers is the thickness of the standard scales including the green liner. That's the beauty of working with wood. You can make them thiner or thicker to taste.

Wow! Those really are nice scales. (And I agree with gundude73 that it's a nice combo.)

How do you get the scales to fit so perfectly without scratching the powdercoat on the tang?

MVB,

The way I do it is old school. Hand sand and feel with the fingers until it's the way you want it. When it gets close, I put blue masking tape on the blade and stop when I can see the dust not gathering on the blue where the scales touch the top of the blade. After that, its feel the high spots, remove the scales, sand, reattach the scales and start again. It takes a while :)
