well I knew it would happen sooner or later I was trying to split/baton a small log and trim off some bark for kindling and well I sort of slipped/ knife slipped out of the log and this was the result

thats after 12 stitches... didn't get a before picture as I was attempting to stop the bleeding any how I guess I will be more careful next time. Doc complemented me on my job of stopping the bleeding/cleaning the wound at home so I guess I remember something from the old boyscout days.

funny side note : for some reason I cleaned the blood off the 5 before I drove myself to the hospital, I guess all those lessons my Dad taught me about taking care of your tools so they take care of you really stuck! anyways I am fine it doesn't hurt that bad really just thought i'd share.

moral of the story ... pay attention when playing with sharp things that one second you stop you get hurt. glad it wasnt worse

Yeouch! Gotcha pretty good.

That blade is your blood brother now! That is pretty funny how you cleaned the 5 first... I'd imagine I'd do the same if I cut myself that badly with one of mine. Only my izula's truly belong to me so far... the 4 has yet to get a taste of me ;)

just noticed I managed to stain the grips with my blood at some point ...guess it really it my knife forever now! lucky I like the 5 so much

That always spices things up! I got off easy, I only made a 3/4" incision with my HEST. For some reason I also wiped off the blade before I got around to stopping the bleeding. A man's got to have his priorities.

I did the smae thing with my Izula, not nearly so bad though that required about 4 stitches. Funny thing is I also cleaned off my Izula totally before I went to the hospital to attend to myself. Being in the construction trades I've learned to take care of my tools. The only thing is my para-cord still has some stains on it.:D Glad to see your OK!

Ouch, brother. Yeah, it bit you for sure. I hope it heals up quick and clean. That 5 is yours for sure now. Good stitch work though. Here's to a fast recovery. Moose

Gnarly! Been working in EMS for the past 15 years and it's always the gashes that get to me. Seems everyone of my knives has to taste my blood at some point. Glad you knew what to do.

Gnarly bite! Something like this will either make you more endeared to your blade or hate it.
A sharp knife is a safer knife, but accidents do happen - in this case, a sharp knife makes for a much cleaner cut, if that's any condolence.

Mend well!

Note to self: Self, do not baton fingers. :D

Glad you're ok, and on the bright side you'll now have an ESEE scar that will be the source of campfire stories for a long time to come.

Glad to see your doing well and the cut wasn't worse. As of now, I've cut myself a few times with various knives, but nothing major. My wife is a doctor, and she already knows If I call or page her with "Operation ESEE", she knows when she gets home there's suturing to be done.....:D

all of my favorite knives have tasted my blood,i guess thats why they are my favorites.thats gonna be a cool scar to show the grandkids one day,and an even cooler story of how you got it.a buddy of mine cut his finger off at the first joint with my esee 4,he wasnt as lucky as us.

The Doc I had was a really nice guy he had just gotten back from his last tour in Iraq and had been in the service for 30 years. emergency medicine for 22 of them when he said that I figured he probably had a decent idea of how to put my hand back together

Ouch, the 5 really took a bite. Heal wel.
It would have been kickass hauling the bloodied knife with you, shocking some people for good measure while you'r at it :D
