Hi everyone

Well friends, the waiting is almost over. My new Everest Katana is with Uncle Bill. He'll post the pic for me.
We have been organizing the shipment to me.
Cant wait to test it.
Uncle Bill will surely let you know the specs.

Best regards to all.

Wow, so the parcel DID get here in time.

That means I'll get one to play with soon too

Here is the picture. Antonio's is the top one. Yangdu has the katanas locked up and is gone with the key but Antonio's is pretty much to the specs he sent -- 95%.

The downside is there is a tiny fold line on the back of the blade an inch or two ahead of the tsuba and there is a very slight dimple on the left side of the blade again an inch or two ahead of the tsuba. I told Antonio about these and said I was hesitant to ship an unperfect blade but he wants to take a look anyway. So, the knife will fly tomorrow or Monday. I don't think I'll ever see it again.

The bottom sword is flawless as far as I can tell without severe testing which I am not inclined to do -- but this one strays a little from what Antonio wants.

And, yes, James your kothimoda katana arrived, too. Better late than never. Customs had the parcel -- reason for delay.

Hi James,

Yes indeed. Start buying some matts and some huge smoked hams

Thanks,
Antonio

Yup Uncle Bill,

I suppose you are not going to see it again.

Will you care to post a pic of James' Khotimoda Katana? Would love to see it.

Thanks

Antonio

Yessssss !!!

Thanks Uncle Bill.

Now friends, any comments on the two blades aesthetics? Which one do you prefer? The top one (mine) or the lower one. Would love to learn the taste of each of you, friends.
Regards,

Antonio

You're right, but I think they think that will please the customer.

But one have to both teach the kamis that there are other people with different tastes and we also have to accept their goodwill in doing things under their aesthetical world.

Being very close to India the lattice work is very much inter-influenced.

Antonio

IMHO the top one is closer to a typical katana in form, while the curve in the grip of the bottom one places the blade closer to that of a..dare we say shamshir? A semi S-shaped curve, reminds me of that Oosic grip by Howard Clark :-) (Im sure Antonio knows what Im talking about).

As for the grips.. Im more partial to the grip decorations of the bottom katana, but the top katana possesses more of a 'ready to do business' look.

Gads, I just realized that I have not been using any of those nifty terms I picked up over at the Sword Forum. Losing my touch...

:
I would hate to have both of those in my possesion and have to choose which one!
I no doubt would be even deeper in debt with having chosen Both of them!

I do like the straight handle on Antonio's, but the bottom one has a certain appeal and it may very well be the Shamshir effect that James speaks of.
And somehow the fancy handles has an attraction for me as well and I would be hard pressed to choose between having a choice between the plain handles or one of these.
Of course the YCS handle's shows that I do have a certain appreciation of fancy things.

And me not being much on swords in general since having discovered the H.I. Khukuri's these Everest Katana's do appeal to me with no doubt knowing their quality is having a big part of that appeal and I may just have to have one someday in the future.
Dayumed Addiction anyway, just like cigarettes!!!!

:
I have been wondering about the blade profile on these Everest Katana's. A few questions Bro...
smile.gif

Is the spine thinner than the center?

Is the spine rounded or does it have the angle like the khukuri's have?

Does the edge bevel start about the center of the blade or slightly above?

Is the edge bevel flat ground or slightly hollow ground?

Thanks Bro.

Hi Sam or Yvsa as you like

I think that being a Nepalese interpretation of a katana it is pretty acceptable.

As a designer I think very much on ergonomics and there is a little improvement that could be achieved in the katana handles.
They should not be "inflated" in the center of the handle but in fact it should be the other way round. It is how you get a better non slip grip. But this is not a criticism because these pieces have the added value of carrying a different interpretation.

Nonetheless, as a designer, I think little details are as important as the big ones.

But with a few more katanas and suggestions taken, we will all see an even better rendition of a Nepalese Katana (I don't forget they are Ghorka made).

Congratulations Uncle Bill.

I'M very Happy for all parties concerned. and all I can Think to say is WOW ! Very
nice you guys are very lucky,to have Christmas Early. I like the top one the most my self but I wouldn't turn down either one.
The best to all Jerry

At times Yangdu can be too efficient. James, she has already packed your katana and will not unpack it for pix. If you take some pix and send them I'll post them. In the meantime I have one kothimoda katana left and I'll post pix of it. James you got the wood handle with small finger grips on it. I think you liked that style handle as I recall. But if you'd rather have the one I'll post a pix of a bit later let me know.

And, Antonio, your katana is also packed and will fly away on Monday.

Thanks Very Much Uncle Bill,

I look forward for it. I'll send you some pictures to post.

And I'm also looking forward into seeing Jame's blade.

Bless you,

Antonio

Of the two I prefer Antonio's. I think that once you get this in your hands, Antonio, you will find that this blade is just too much pleasure to put down. That is how I feel about my prototype #2 katana.
