My experience with S35VN (lrg Insingo)

I am sure that CRK will get S35VN worked out before too long. :)

Yeah I got lucky and got some of the last ones in S30V they made, and they were run harder than usual. :D

I highly doubt this, but I wonder if they would reblade my 4 existing knives with blades with a higher rc?

I know there is no way for you to know that, I was just thinking out loud.

Both of mine are from the same batch and the one I had tested came in at 59.5 HRC. :D

The blades come out so easily - how hard would it be to have 4 of them run to 61-62 HRC as a batch? Is it even possible? Obviously I know nothing about these matters. :D

Seems like it would be feasible, but CRK is mega busy last I heard. I don't think they'd really want to bother with something like that right now, but in the future who knows. It would be cool to hear from them though. :)

I should have my first Elmax bladed knife within the next couple of weeks and look forward to seeing what that is like compared to some of the other knife steels that I have seen.

Its funny, I just bought a NIB Startac Umnum and was under the impression it was S35vn. At least according to the birthcard. But after
taking it apart to re-lube I saw the "S" stamp and honestly with the recent developments was a little relieved. That said I still think a lot more
testing of various CRK S35VN blades are warranted before writing off the steel, or heat treat, etc.

Odds are good that the card is right.

Excuse my ignorance but is an S stamp somewhere on the blade supposed to be indicative of S30V as opposed to S35VN?

Thought I'd update my cutting tests.

Material cut was VGA monitor cable I had lying around. 1/4 " thick. With all the wires, Mylar and other shit, thought it'd make for a decent cutting test.

I counted 93 pieces cut this AM. I had stopped the test due to my idiotic attempt at trying to cut through the thingy that houses the ferrite tube. I had forgotten that it contained ferrite and would be a bad idea to try and cut through. So my bad there. Before that cut tho, the Insingo was doing great. No edge damage was discernible. Other than scratches on the bevel, of course.

For those that don't know: Ferrite is a ceramic compound consisting of a mixed oxide of iron and one or more other metals. Looks and feels like a magnet, however, this one is not magnetized.

Material being cut - it measured 1/4" in diameter.

For those interested in what's inside the cable I was cutting

Top thingy is what I tried to cut though. Bottom thingy is the ferrite tube inside it.

It should (mistakes happen), but IIRC the "V" indicating S35VN is on the opposite side of the tang.

Corpus, thanks for the pics of what you cut and the blade condition. My Insingo is a month younger than yours and it has taken a good beating, although I have not cut any metals. I think it got right back to razor sharpness with about 5 passes on the strop.
