My FABM gets a facelift

I just couldn't leave good enough alone and decided to change up my FABM a tad bit. I normally prefer the hand satin but decided to change it to a belt satin because I find myself having to retouch the satin on the main bevels every time I use sandpaper to touch up my convex edge. With the belt satin I don't have to worry about that anymore as the scratch patterns all go the same direction. I do somewhat miss the hand satin look on this knife though :(

I also put a small clip point on the tip because that was something that I have always wanted to do. To even things out I slightly tapered the tang to move the balance forward.

Finally, I replaced my trusty user canvas handles with my current favorite factory handles.... the old factory green linen. Big thanks to Resinguy for those handles. They still look brown to me but I like them that way :D

All in all I shaved about 2oz of my favorite knife. It now weights in at 1lb 2oz . It is about 4 oz lighter than a FSH with Mag Handles or 2.1 oz heavier than a Sage HR with Mag G10 handles.

Amazing!! I love that old school Green Linen stuff. Very unique!

Impressive as always Ban,

Can we see it chopping a 2x4 now? I'm keen to see a 5 cut chopper. GO on you know you want to.

Chop 2X4s it will. 5 cut chopper? I highly doubt it! I am not that skilled. I know for sure I can do it in 10 chops though :D

Ban - Looks great.

Were those standard or mag grips you replaced? I've been looking for some mag slabs to buy off someone -- so being nosey. :)

The handles that were replaced are standard black canvas micarta. I don't like mag handles on the fusion handles. I find them too wide for my hands. The mags feel great while handling but tires me out a lot faster during chopping because I have to spend more energy constantly readjusting to get a good solid grip.

Nice Ban! I sure wish I could feel that one someday --- just seems like it'd be perfect...

Hmm - i hadn't considered that. I really like the mags on my ASH but i'm not really chopping with it and its a straight handle of course. Maybe i need to handle a magged FBM before i do it.

Great work, as always. Clip points rule!

Now, give me back my scales. :D
Those scales feel very nice too... Worn and comfy in the hands. That FABM is gonna be even more killer... As if it wasn't killer enough!

Yes, you oughta try chopping with one first just to be sure. I too liked the feel of MAGS on my Fusion handles until I did lots of chopping with it. The MAGS will definately suit you better if you have large hands.

No Friggin Way!!!!!! Buddy! You'll have to pry them off my cold dead hands :D

Ban, again amazing work!! That finish is awesome and yes, those scales are very nice:eek:

looking good. I kinda feel a bit sad that the top scallops are gone, kinda looses it's Fusion'ie look. Maybe I just need to get used to it. because I like that look with the straight handles.
