My father needs a classy EDC

I don't have one yet, but in your father's position I would carefully consider AG Russel's Medium Barlow. Looks and carries like a traditional, but can be opened one-handed like a modern folder.

Otherwise, well, I do love my Sage1. As well as my Case Swayback Jack. I just see the Barlow as a best-of-both-worlds for someone who isn't going to have an EDC "rotation."
Best of luck!

works in a corporate environment.

Then...a folder with no pocket-clip, and one with a 3" (or less) blade-length. Use a leather pocket sheath to carry it.
My first and only reco is a William Henry folder. There are MANY models available for $275...or you can spend a lot more. These are pocket jewelry knives, but very functional.
You can Google to find knife-dealers who have a good selection in stock. Not all do.
You're a good son.

Gayle Bradley Air by Spyderco.

Agreed. Added bonus that due to light use by your Dad he may sharpen it once a year or so because of the CPM-M4 steel with a blade length of 2.55" and weighing a scant 1.3 ounces. You'll have money left over to also get him a leather pouche for it.

Kershaw DoubleCross... Looks like a traditional, but it has a liner lock and can be operated one-handed. Kershawguy has 'em in stock for well under your price limit. With the leftovers, you can also get a Wild Turkey, which is also a nice looking knife.

Fallkniven. P, Tre Kronor, U4, there are many models with different available handle materials and inlays that would make for a nice dressy EDC. You can also have the blades engraved.
