My favorite time of year for being outdoors, almost here...

A couple more pics from years past... this was a can-cooking setup that I wanted to try out. Worked pretty well for us, I brought some steel wire out with us to hang the pot.

And this was an early morning in late fall. Kinda creepy, kinda pretty.

Making me hungry! Man, biscuits and bacon sounds so amazing. I bet there is nothing like the smell of cast iron working its magic on bacon in the woods.

I know I said chili in the first post, but we have a lot of fun varying what we cook out there. Chili, ground sausage sandwiches, chicken noodle soup, beef stew... and this one which may have been my favorite; biscuits and gravy with bacon on the side.

That was a really chilly morning, and having that hearty breakfast made the trip. We cheated by buying pre-cooked biscuits at a deli on the way out, but oh well.

S.O.S. has always been a camping favorite in my family.

Spam is a camping and hiking tradition amongst my crew. Crispy spam with one of those $.99 knorr rice sides packets. $3.50 total cost and less than a pound to feed 2 grown men lunch is pretty good. Spam goes on a stick for roasting to get it crispy of course.

Or I get drunk and wanna be camp chef and make pork tenderloin seasoned with our own rub, seared in a cast iron skillet, and finished with Maker's Mark. Haven't done this in 2 years but my God was it good.

It has methal alcohol which if consumed could be very hazardous. I just don't want someone finding it and thinking its some fine bourbon whiskey and chugging it down. I use it for fuel for my little stove.

Ah... I've never done a fueled stove before. I always wind up places where I can just make a fire with fallen wood.

I hike and camp a lot of state parks. Can't touch nature. Plus during summer in Texas nights are still in the 90's you don't want a fire.

My other is marked that way too, its just not in red tape. . ;) but most people don't want the backwoods bourbon I drink. Plus after a sip they might not need/want any more anyways.
