My Finnish Knives

Last night as I was packing for our move from Finland back to USA, I ran across this interesting knife. It has a little fire striker in addition to the blade. The knife has a filed spot on top of blade tip and you strike it to the striker that you have put on top of fire starting material..

This knife was made for commercial sales so it's not one-of-the-kind...but it's a handy tool made by Marttiini....

I'll post some of my other favorite knives when I get time. Gotta go back into packing now. Leaving for USA this weekend...

Are these available in the USA?

I have no idea about how usual or unusual these are.

There is a very similiar model that is available in the US - try Ragweed Forge. I can't recall the name of the Maker of the ones he has but you will find it easy enough.

There is a big following for the wonderful Finnish designs here in the US.

Could fellow members post english translations of what they said, so that we can follow the thread, thanks.

Just a little jabbing between neighbours about the reputation of Finns being enthusiastic knife-wielders. Nothing too serious really, but sorry.

The Wood Jewel line, model WJ-J looks like almost an identical twin. Thanks for letting me see it.

I wish I'd know what the northern neighbors were saying...;):)

Here is a Marttiini folder I bought for my husband...

...and the same one for myself. I just love the curly birch. The curlier it is, the more I like it....

I always have this in my pocket and I use it just about daily, for one thing or another, -from cleaning under the nails to cutting something needed cutting.

Right now as I'm packing for the move, it's in and out of the pocket and getting dirty all the time... It's surprising how well it holds it's edge...

I have a lot of knives and my favorites are made by Heimo Roselli. http://www.roselli.fi/1/index-eng.html
They have all gone to the states with the move but I can post pictures of them later when I'm home and have the time....
