I recently finished, and gave as gifts, these three knives. I'm a hobbyist maker so this is all for fun.
The seax is hand forged from 9260. The handle is of bone and horn. The whole thing was done with hand tools (well, ok, i admit i did use an angle grinder a bit to knock off the forge scale). The blade is actually quite thick, with a reinforced point.
The hunting knife is hand-forged from O1 and was given a rough, etched finish. The handle scales are horn, with nickel silver guard and rivets. I used an angle grinder for some rough grinding and a small diameter abrasive wheel on my drill press for shaping the scales.
The kitchen/utility knife is of W1, with a horn and nickel silver handle. It has been used a little bit, so it has started to develop a splotchy patina.
As you can tell, i really like working with horn...it's a wonderful handle material.
Sorry for the crappy pics...I gave them as gifts (mom & dad's bday and friend's wedding) this weekend and wanted to get at least some record of them...so i took some camera phone pictures =/. It's annoying, i can't figure out how to get the pictures to turn 90 degrees...
I definitely need to work on my finish, other than that, any suggestions?
Thanks,
Dustin
