My First 7 Knives

Hey there! This is my first post, but I've been lurking for a few months now. It was a few months ago when my girlfriend saw me shopping for knives online and said "you don't need to buy another knife", which is when I thought "hmmm, your right, I should be making my own!". So I set out learning (almost exclusively from the knowledgeable folk around here) and acquiring the basic tools. I meant to post the knives as I went, but before I knew it, I had gotten this far. My go-to tools are currently a HF 1x30, HF 8" drill press, half round and mill file, and hack saw. All these knives came from the same piece of admiral 1080, HT to non-magnetic (melted my girlfriends hairdryer, oops), quenched in canola oil @130*, temper twice at 400*. I've put a few of the blades through some pretty rigorous testing and they seem to hold an edge very well. I've played around with homemade Micarta-ish stuff and have had good luck. The wood handles are osage orange which I had sitting around from a different project (linseed oil finish). I've mostly done partial flat grinds, though the last three knives have been followed up with a slack belt and given a slight convex. I think I'll continue with the convex grinds, or at least convex secondaries which I have come to like. The knives are in the order that they were made more or less (the last knife was a gift to my Dad and isn't shown in the group pic). Let me know what you think and any pointers for the future. These forums have been a huge help. I hope these links work!

Pretty darn nice first knives - kudos!

I really like your home brew muffled HT forge.

Thanks, Guys! The mixing bowl makes a pretty decent and cheap little forge. I've just been using charcoal and blowing air up through it with an air mattress pump.

That Nessmucky lookin'
one with the light colored wood looks like a real usable design, for sure !
Really , they all do.
