Folks, this is my first thread in this section of BF!

I been collecting knives seriously now for about 7 years, custom tacticals and high end productions mostly. I have done all my research and purchases on the internet which has beed a valuable source of course.

I have bit by the ABS smith bug about six months ago and this past blade show was my first knife show ever. Meeting all the smiths and makers this show really added to the whole experience! I wished I attended a show years ago!!

I did not buy any smithed knives at blade show...though I had planned to buy one if I found the right one that was available at the show. sadly, it didn't work out that I left blade with a smithed blade...although I left blade with a wealth of ideas of knives I wanted and makers of knives and related products that I would make my mission to get items from :D:thumbup:

shortly after blade I had an opportunity to purchase this Russ Andrews Hawthorne PC Bowie from a very knowledgable collector! This knife is featured on the great Russ Andrews website and was created by Russ when he was still a JS! I contacted Russ about this knife and was informed that this knife was his first ever Hawthorne bowie!

Russ later created a 10 inch blade version of this knife and also called it a Hawthorne bowie, so he added the PC (personal Carry) into the name of this 7 inch blade version.

I knew I needed a special sheath for my first ABS knife and Paul Long was the first maker that came into my head when I thought of SPECIAL....:D

This is what I have been graced with for my first ABS knife sheath combo!

I of couse have many irons in the fire and will post pics of the master works when I get them in the near future! Remember I said I didn't leave blade show with a knife but there may have been an ordered placed ;)

Special Thanks to Russ and Paul for doing what they do!!

Thanks to Grapevine (David for helping me obtain such a special piece), Joe Paranee who was a wealth of info and good advice at blade show and after in helping educate a newbie to the ABS communtity! Jon Brand has been also very helpful!

Jeff

Beautiful combo - what's the inlay on the sheath?
Russ has been making "Master Smith" quality knives for over 20 years - this one certainly rates up there with the best of them!

Enjoy it in good health - Welcome to the world of "empty wallets" and a "never-ending knife jones"

Jeff, congratulations to you! You are starting out on top with one of Russ' bowies, that is for sure. You have had good instruction and the sky (and wallet) is the limit now!

Paul completes a package such as this like nobody else.

I remember that knife well - beautiful piece and a great start (to say the least) down the forged blade path. Congrats!

Jeff I am stoked for ya

Your enthusiasm is off the charts and it is what makes the custom knife world great

Glad I could be of assistance and an Andrews with a Pail Long sheath is a grand way to start.

Welcome to the Custom Knife World and glad to have ya :)

BTW check out the CKCA a lot of great people and stuff going on there

Michael, good question the inlay is rattle snake. It also think is is cool to get a piece from such an established MS from when he was a JS, and the knife is still as mint as when Russ completed it!! thanks for the comments so far :)

Roger, I had been told this beauty has passed your hands? This is not a cheap hobby but when you get a special piece it really makes the money secondary....well I say that now! I hope I can moderate my spending on this obsession better in the future as I have done in the past! yeah right

Joe, I will def check out CKCA!!

I'm proud to say that I've known Russ and his work for many, many years. My jaw dropped when I first saw his work way back then, and it still floors me to see it now. And, I'm not just saying this, because I'm supposed to be getting a new Russ knife in a week or so, either(ok, so maybe I am a little) :)

That's one heck of a sweet score, BTW.

Mike, the inlay is Rattle Snake as Jeff answered, but it is juvenile Western Diamond Back. The tanned skin was only about 16" long. The inlay window is only 7/8" wide at the widest part so it took a really small skin to have diamonds that that would fit inside the window cut out and still show the full diamond.

Thats a really nice looking model by Russ. Every knife of his I've seen was top quality. The finish on this must be beautiful in person. The RAII integral I owned also passed through Rogers hands (well he was probably the original owner) and the polish as well as grinds and overall build were perfect.

The PL sheath is a nice one. I love the Diamond back inlay and you don't see it as much on his sheathes. Good choice on requesting that.

Like Joe said, your enthusiasm for this stuff is great and its good to have you here. Your future projects (the ones we talked about) should be killer when the time comes. Thanks for the shout and i'm glad to help get you going.

I call "dibs"....

Yep - I was the first owner of that piece. Danbo introduced me to Russ many moons ago now - for which I owe him many beers...

Roger - I believe most of Russ' knives have passed through your hands.
Lucky for you, I heard he gave up beer!!!

Yeah, but not cheeseburgers! ;) :)

Mmmmmm.... cheesburgers....

Looking forward to your new piece as well Danbo. In the near future, Russ will be sending me a new design of his - and integral camp knife - to take out and beat on hard. Should be fun!

Jeff - here is a pic of your Hawthorne, together with the damascus piece that you get a glimpse of in Starr's avatar, and a stag /carbon bowie that 'aint goin' nowhere:
