My first attempt at 'handling' an knife

Great job and a good idea, too. Moras don’t cost much, so re-handling them would make a nice inexpensive introductory woodworking/knife modding project. Hmmmm.....

As a fan of the classic Moras, I like the oval handle too. I am not a big fan of finger grooves anyway, and here they make too much handle for the slender Mora blade. The oval handles I find to be very comfortable. Nothing wrong with making them out of some nice wood.

I had never had a finger grooved knife before, and thought I'd try it.... I was thinking "neck knife", sort of.. and I wanted to try the laminated look.
I prefer the oval handle, as well. Perhaps a laminated oval handle...

Nice work! Especially for your first try
Now you are hooked.

It took me a couple of knives to realize that you have to file down the tang some to keep that guard area gap from showing.
Not the end of the world. I'm the only one that notices on mine and as long as it is sealed to the elements Bob's your uncle.
May each one get a little easier and a little better.

You are hooked, you just don't know it yet :)

You don't need to re-handle anything. Mora sells the blade only for several their knife models. Of course if you want to buy the complete knife and take the handle off, that's up to you. It probably wouldn't cost more than a couple dollars more than buying just the blade.

O.B.

Check out Lauri blades for other blanks. I really like the Lauri PT line- 80CRV2 steel @ about 62 HRC. You are your own best critic. Check out youtube to find different techniques. I've followed the Topicala for some good videos. My next one is going to be stacked birch bark.

That's correct. I bought the blades. I think they were around $12 apiece...

I really appreciate all the suggestions, and the compliments. It's been a fun project.

Thanks for the tip... I'll check them out.

That's beautiful work... I handled a few Frost laminated blades for friends, but nowhere near as nice as yours.
