First I want to tank Erik Isaacson for selling me three of his bracelets and GIVING me enough material to make a fourth. Very cool. I am very happy with his bracelets and customer service.

Second, I want to thank Stormdrane for the in depth instructions on his site.

Erik was kind enough to send me 12 feet of blue 550 cord and a contoured bracelet to try my hand at a bracelet. I followed Stormdranes instructions to a 'T' and screwed up quite a few times, then modified his directions (not that they were deficient - I just wanted a different look at the clasp ends) and tried about 5 different times before I ended up with this:

This consists of about 10 feet of usable cord. The way Erik makes them sneaks in a couple of extra feet - but I like this look better.

Hope you like it.

Looks great, and I'm glad I could help. You did a great job and I can't hardly tell the difference between mine (after doing 100's of them) and your's.

Congrats on a great looking bracelet.

:D:D

Thanks a lot man. I am going to learn to double wrap the enderlais rope for a true survival bracelet and then go on to Lanyards.

Hey! Thats cool! Instead of using it as a bracelet, I think I might replace a lesser used strap on my backpack with one of those. Nice Idea.

Not to sidetrack the thread, but someone is sending me a couple of buckles off of their pack exactly for this reason. The strap will end up being approx 34" long and use about 35-40' of cord. I did a prototype belt (although it didn't work as well as I'd hoped ;) ) that used 70' of cord.

:D:D

Can somebody explain what the difference between shock cord and paracord is? That and is what does the "550" is 550 cord mean? Wouldn't mine making a bracelet or knife lanyard. Thanks

Nice work!

Read this...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parachute_cord

The same properties which soldiers appreciate in paracord are also useful in civilian applications. After World War II parachute cord became available to civilians, first as military surplus[3] and then as a common retail product. While some commercially available paracord is made to specification, even when labeled as such a given product may not correspond exactly to a specific military type and can be of differing construction, quality, or strength. Particularly poor quality examples may have significantly fewer strands in the sheath or core, cores constructed of bulk fiber rather than individual yarns, or include materials other than nylon. Commercial parachute cord is available in a wide variety of colors which are not covered by the military specification.

That is really cool! I wonder if there's a way to make it into a watch band? That would rock!

nice job on the bracelet.

this is my first 2 attempts at a bracelet.

the red one was first. it's a 2-strand inner core on a flat 3/4" buckle. the buckle end with only 2 loops of cord on it moved around too much.

the black one has a 4 strand inner core which holds it shape a little better than the 2-strand like stormdrane's instructions which i also used. i used a 5/8" contoured buckle for this...my only grip about it is that it was digging into the inside of my wrist but it's fine if i wear it with the buckle on the side of my wrist.

Is there a place to order a bucnh of buckles on the smallish side? (not too small). I have been looking for some contoured ones but they only ones i can find are on dog collars......

Ordered some buckles and snaphooks yesterday from http://cdwplus.com/singleSRB.html Seems to be going fine, will update late. Also order a few hundred feet from Supply Captain as well, will update on that later. However, over the weekend it seems they switched servers and the orders got a little screwed up, but they made sure everything was correct. Can't wait to get everything.

Cool bracelet, I have made a few recently. I started a new project this week while I was on vacation at the beach. I always have my 10/22 with me when I venture out and thought a custom sling out of 550 would be really cool. So I measured out the material and decided I was going to tripple tie it. when done it should be around 130 - 140 feet total length. I will post some pics when it's done.

UPDATE: Just got the paracord from The Supply Captain. Can't wait until I start knotting or braiding it. I have to say their website seems a little shady, but I am sure they are a legit and helpful company. Thumbs up.

Not to flood the thread, but I thought I'd update once more about the orders. I recieved the buckles from Creative Designworks. The buckles and snaphooks seem fine, thought I ordered the wrong buckles. Luckily they are small enough that I can double them up and make a good size bracelet.

hey everyone im new and this is my first post on this board.
i have never heard of or seen a Survival Bracelet before and i was just wondering what the point of them is? is it just a way to bring cord with you and when you need it just unrap it?
