A2 is a tool steel that can and will patina, although it's significantly more corrosion resistant than 1095. Patina or rust on A2 is normal. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if bark river sold you a knife in 1095 marked as A2.

With all of BRK's steel "mixups", I wonder how many A2 marked blades are say 3v? I'm thinking none.
