My first becker

I am looking into getting my first becker. I have been wanting a BK2 for some time now, but the more I look the more I am unsure. I am now torn between the 2, 7, and 9. I don't have a large chopper, so that makes me want a 9, but the 2 and 7 look great too. I would be using it for camping and other outdoor activities. I have an ESEE RC-6 already as my large camping knife, but I want a Becker. So I figure ask the guys who know best. What should my first Becker be? The reality is in time I'm sure I will get all 3 and more, but for now just 1. I am curious about the weight and carry so please let me know what you experiences are with each and why you think I should get one over the other.

Thanks
Mike

If I were going to do it over, I'd probably get the 9 or the 5 for my first big Becker. 11 or 14 are also good choices for EDC knives. The 2 is a great knife, don't get me wrong. But it's a bit hefty for my tastes, and if I want something that heavy, I'd rather have a 9. 5 is reportedly a great kitchen knife as well, really good at slicing tasks.

Well........

If you're looking to pair the RC-6 with your new becker, I think a BK9 would be great match as I see them having different roles. You could get a BK14 to round out the set.

I don't have a ESEEE 6 or a BK7, but I've seen another veteran member here Flexx say that the 6 is his favorite ESEE and the 7 is his favorite Becker. So if you really like your 6 a BK7 might float your boat too.

Of course you won't hear me tell you not to get the BK2. It's a monster..... a very useful monster.

At least you have already admitted this will be your "first" Becker..... cause it won't be your last :D

Not that it's on your list, but the BK10 is not quite as beefy as the BK2 (same size but it's a little thinner, has a swedge and a thumb ramp) and it's a limited edition soon to be gone for good (like 20 left) available if you call Ka Bar. As many on this forum have pointed out, if you buy it now and decide you don't like it, you can most definitely sell it for the same if not more than you bought it for in a few months. I fell for it and am impatiently awaiting mine ;)

Bk10 or bk5. Or a bk5. Hmmm I thunk I'd go with a bk5. Then you can leave that silly rc-6 at home ;)

Weird, I just posted but it didn't show up.

They're not on the site; you gotta call. Not sure if they're open weekends. They're $158 with shipping. Obviously the price is a little steep, but they come with grivory and micarta scales and few other bells and whistles, and if you figure a) it's a LE you can easily sell and b) micarta scales are at least $40, it's a little more reasonable. Other things about this BK10: comes stripped/without the black coating in what they call "stonewashed" (another thing that sets it apart from other models). You'd be buying 1 of 180 Camillus blanks they found lying around.

OK, I give. I will order it first thing on monday, but I am not a patient man! This will be a long weekend.

Personally, I'm with the others, and would go with a 9 to fill out your current setup. I understand the reasoning behind the BK10 as it is a LE and there aren't many left, but I think I'd still go for a BK9 just because they make a great large camp knife.

Either way though, the natives demand photos of the new blade, especially photos of it being used :).

no worries man, I would likely have a LE BK10 if I had the $$$$. Sadly, as a grad student, its either knives, or food money...

I vote knives. You can live like 40 days without food and water is free. We can sell the diet to Hollywood and buy all the beckers you want

I would opt for knives too, plus there are a decent amount of feral cats in my area...problem solved...
