My First Benchmade?

Like a few other posts I've read recently on here, I just got a fat refund check and looking to spend some of it on a nice knife. I've always been a fan of knives but over time I've moved to smaller styles like the Gerber STL 2.0.

Long story short; I've done a lot of reading, browsing, youtubing and finally think I've settled on the Benchmark 940. I was planning on spending $200 but if there are any other suggestions I'm open but I'm already 75% certain that is what I'll buy. I've already considered tons of other BM knives, Spyderco, ZT, Cold Steel, etc etc. I plan on using it as both EDC & self-defense. I do have a CCP and a Micro Desert Eagle that I love and trust but would like something that I can always have with me when carrying a firearm isn't possible, legal or if just not comfortable.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where the best place to get it at the best price that is also reliable?

Thanks in advance and if you suggest or mention something a url would be awesome!!!

Do a google search for Benchmade 940 and click shopping. Then have the results displayed in lowest to highest.

I'd say it is a gents folder. Way too thin for any hard use. It looks really nice though and no doubt a quality knife.

I do agree with CM. This one has a slim profile handle and blade. I think Amazon still has a good price since last time i check.

Well, if you have $200 to throw down... I would strongly suggest the 930 Kulgera. Killer looks, S30V blade steel, 3.6" blade, the list goes on. I handled one at Benchmade's factory (Conveniently located 20 minutes from my house) and it was just awesome.

Make no mistake, the 940 is an outstanding light-duty EDC, but in my opinion, you should get a more robust knife for your first Benchmade. Just my two cents.

I have 2 Benchmades myself a 912 and a 615. I prefer the thicker BEEFIER Benchmades. They hold up amazingly well and I've held the 940 everyone loves it but to me it is too thin and can't take the kind of abuse I like to put my knives through. Also Benchmade has arguably the best customer service in the industry. You call them you talk to someone in this country that speaks english as their primary language within 30 seconds to a 1 min. They mail you pocket clips and full screw sets for free.

I know you've done your research, but if you are looking for a slim knife, what about the 710? It's a great EDC and of course has been mentioned a time or two as a great self defense tool if necessary.

+1 on the 710...with the money you have left over you can get a second BM in a Griptilian or just buy some extra ammo :D

I have been trying to control myself and not tire everyone with it but....RIFT!!! Check out the 950 for a great EDC blade or the 14205 as a somewhat beefier and thicker blade. The 950 with the awesome AXIS lockis my all time favorite knife.

Check out the Grip/Rift hybrid looking thing.....the large Bone Collector.

Ya my first is going to be a tanto of some sort and the 950 hits exactly what I want. The 14000 series is sexy but I do prefer the looks of the 14255. As for ammo I found a place locally that always has 380acp stock and doesn't hike the price like everyone else.

Also the 710 is another to consider.... I appreciate all the input bit just know you're making it much more difficult!

Thats a really nice looking knife ND. I also dig the fact that its in D2. I am now seriously looking at it - but finding such a knife in Australia is a pain in the butt.

The Mini Rukus is probably my all time favorite benchmade... This week. The Bone Collector is another very cool and strong folder that I highly recommend. You're lucky that you're stores have stocks of 380 auto. The whole SW Washington/N Oregon is DRY! I work at a gun counter and we only get a couple boxes in every couple weeks usually. Oh and also check out the BM 943. Same handle as the 940 but with a nice pointy spear point blade.

The knife in the picture is the Bone Collector that I suggested. Check it out at knifeworks.

No it is called the Bone collector and there is a large and small. It has G10 and D2 blade and the grips haven't changed. There is a model number that goes with them but I don't know it off the top of my head. I actually have one on the way to me so hopefully it will be as nice as the pictures look. I doubt it will top the Rift though.

Been carrying a 940 Axis lock for years as my EDC. It ride's
in the pocket of a suit or jeans equally well.it dosen't make you feel like a brick in your pocket like some of the larger knives.mine has been used for every thing from skinning a deer, kitchen chores, scraping gaskets and cutting new ones.also sharpened tent peg's. I guss my point is if your going into the lumber jacking business and want the 940 as your main tool, you might be better off with a bigger knife.if you want an elegant cutting tool made from excellent materials that with reasonable care will last you a life time the 940 Osborne my be the one for you. it was for me. YMMV
Hope this helps
Mike
