I have always been partial to Spyderco but recently picked up this Benchmade Bone Collector and I love it.

The Axis lock is a wonderful system; locks up tight and very clean lines.
Just wanted to share some pix.

Well, with the round opening hole you're not venturing too far out of your comfort zone. Nice choice for your first BM.

Yes indeed! That one is on my hit list. Congrats on the purchase.

I'm being supermodel picky with this opinion, but I don't like the sudden corner at the back of the spine with the knife closed.

I don't disagree. I love the smooth lines of my 940 and Caly 3 both when opened and closed. Both are supremely well designed knives.

Thats a good lookin knife! I kinda wish it had a bit of a sharper point on it, but its an excellent choice to get your foot into the door.

My 15020-1 is a keeper - it's .125" D2 blade came sharp. My only dislike, minor as it is, concerns the skull 'Bone Collector' emblem on the blade - but I knew it was there when I bought it. The price, locally, was quite good, too, actually bordering on a bargain in an AXIS lock Benchmade. That -1 variant with the two-tone sculpted G10 is a handsome knife, IMHO. I never noticed the abrupt edge on the closed sblade's spine - but it hasn't been a problem carried clipless deep in my pocket.

Be prepared for it's size and bulk - 4.84" OAL closed, .735" thick, and 5.6 oz. You'll know it's in your pocket.

I have one of the small BC's and I'll be adding the large. They are the most outstanding new BM offering IMAO... everything I'd want in an EDC knife. My rotation has dropped to just this and my CF Caly 3 since I've had the BC.

I don't like all the garbage on the blade either, but it's such a great user that I'm gonna carry it anyway. Mine goes from warehouse to woods to garden just fine and the D2 really holds up well. The blade shape and tip are two of the things that attracted me to the BCs. I like the spear point or modified sheepsfoot or whatever it is. It's very sharp for piercing but it's stout enough that I don't worry about damaging it with the things I do.

I nearly crapped my pants when I saw the Bone Collectors in the Nutnfancy interview with the Benchmade guys at last year's Shot Show. Instantly knew I had to have one.

I had a large one for a while, and still really wish I didn't have to sell it to fund other projects. However, I did redeem myself a bit and ended up getting the mini folder, which has been a total EDC homerun. It really makes me want to get another large folder, but right now it's a tie between the large Bone Collector and the HK 14205. . . decisions decisions. . .

Congrats on your Bone Collector, though. It's a cool knife.

I thought the Large Bone Collector was so nice I bought it twice. I recently sold the first along with a few others to fund a new purchase. Missed it after a couple days and replaced it with a black scaled version.

It's a stellar EDC if you like your knives on the sturdy side. It's as if the Griptilian and the Presidio had a baby and the baby took steroids. I really like the full, un-swedged spine and the thick tip. May not be the best thing going for piercing, but it'll get the job done and do a whole host of things more elegant blades might balk at.

The D2 gets sharp and stays that way. I think it's the most useful Benchmade design of 2010 by far.

Best,

Heekma

I'll never get rid of my 14205, but I'll carry the large BC more because it's a more comfortable user for me and I like D2 better than 154CM.

Nice pictures. I've been a fan of that style of handle since I first saw it on the 950 Rift. Very cool looking and a nice departure from the straight black that covers so many knives.

D40+Ultron? Looking good! I really like the scales on this one. I'll have to see what other models have these.

That tang reminds me of a Para...lol.

How do you find the weight? Spyderco generally puts out lighter pieces, so this may be quite a change.

I too love my Bone Collector. As far as BM's go this has been the best release since the HK14205. Mine has been slightly modified though.

M2HSSR-910SBK,

Hokay--where did those orange scales come from and how can I acquire a pair of my own? I must have them!

Very cool looking BC!

Best,
