My First BF Warning

After 30 something years of navigating my way through the international and corporate parts of the Internal Revenue Code, in my retirement I'll study the changes to the exchange rules and sell off my collection.

I'll be able to tell when I slip into mental incompetence by the number of infractions I get.

Can't make everyone happy. Call me stupid for trying, guess what ...

We have updates to the rules, mods try to get the word out. Announcements, stickies, information posts like Jaxx did here. Spark even had a comments thread opened to discuss the rules, and he changed some because of that input. People still get all upset their posts get a yellow card.

You want PMs first now? I find a post in violation, or someone reports it to me, I go to my file and copy the rules into that warning you get, I put comments above it now, too, to make sure you can see what I'm telling you. If I send a PM, the next mod who finds you in violation has no way of knowing you ignored the first time you were told.

Since when did I run around here trying to make people unhappy?

Why, why, why, why, why !?!?!?

The new rules with their action on short posts like "mail sent", "knife sold", "nice handle", are meant to keep down the chatter that doesn't sell knives. It slows down the process. And every time you bump one thread, you're knocking everyone else's threads back down.

One more why, that I'm letting you get away with:

Threads don't necessarily belong where you like to post. We have specialized forums so everyone interested in the topic can find it. By putting this tech support post in Busse, you deprived everyone else of the information.

You are absolutely right, I stand corrected.

In hindsight I can see how my "email sent" inadvertently bumps the thread to the top.

Also I can see how my posting here deprived people who it could help from seeing it and took up space here with nonsense.

I can also see that mods would have to follow rules themselves and document what is going on for the sake of communication.

I apologize for stirring up this mess.

It would be nice if you could move this mess to a place where it would be more appropriate, but I doubt there are enough hours in the day to do that with everything that ends up in the wrong place.

Thanks for your patience and tolerance, I'll try not to stir things up in the future.

As for the couple of nasty comments I've received here in this thread well, thanks a lot for showing your colors, guys. It really sped up the process of figuring out who was who around here for me.

As to the civil and helpful comments from those of you who had the decency to pass them along, thanks even more for that. It's nice to feel like one of the gang, you Hogs!

Bill

Many threads like this would be solved by following this motto - "Think Twice, Post Once" (with apologies to Chris Reeve).

People who get upset over warnings crack me up.
