I just finished this one. It was something that I'd been wanting to try. It's forged from the end piece of a bar of 1084.

Tricia thinks I should donate it for the ABS auction at the upcoming Hammer-in at Old Washington. I don't if there's much interest in these things or not.

I did find out that simple design does not necessarily mean simple to make. Getting that handle/guard thing shaped and positioned like I wanted was somewhat a daunting task. It strengthened my already deep respect for a real blacksmith.

That's pretty darn cool Terry! I hate to break this to ya, but we all think you are a pretty darn good "real blacksmith" too.

That's a neat little knife Terry, and it would make a worthy donation.

Cheers,

Roger

sweet little "retro" piece Terry!

One question, though... has the "tang/handle" been left (soft/hard?) so it can spark off of a flint stone? I know that this style was used as a patch knife, but I thought I saw Winkler doing these as part of a fire starter kit... would yours work for that, too??

And I also gotta tell ya that you, and others, have been posting some very nice stuff lately... and the one of your wife's, also!!!

:D

Thanks guys.

Joe,
After much consideration I opted to do a full quench on it, so yes, the handle is hardened. By-the-way, Tricia is finishing up her knife this week. We want to take it with us to the Piney Woods Hammer-in at Old Washington, Arkansas this weekend. All she has left is to do the finish on the handle and sharpen it.

I like it. It would be a great donation and will sell because it does have your name on it.
