Dude, the photos of your new prize are very nice; you've obviously posted photos before. From your captures and angles, I sense some very good karma, and like you said, much life & service left within the steel to provide its owner. Happy adventures to you with your folder.

wow, this is a classic blade. Not the most beautiful right now, but as you said, much life left!
With a lil efford, you can put it into great shape again... or if you exist without it for a few weeks, send it to Terry, and he can forward this one to us (Solingen) and we can try to give it a lil SPA...

That looks like an oldie?

The Treestamp looks old period 1900-1924. Do you know how old it is?

The handle material looks like celluloid (that shrinks near the bolsters when aging.)

I would leave the patina on the blade for caracter.. Handle backspacers. i would take a soft copper coin. Scrape of rust of back spacer and clean with mineral oil and a cloth. 000 steelwool if the oil and cloth won't take it all of.

Thanks everyone, I will definately will give it some gentle love. Did they make this style back in the 20's?

I was wondering too Biggame223? Handle looks different from current ones . Nail nic too. Next to that blade stamp looks older then later Treeband bladestamp. I would like to see a better pic of the blade stamp as you missed the bottom in this pic. Does it has any text beneith or next to the tree faded which we can't see in this picture? Next the inscription under Boker Solingen on the blade makes me wonder?

The handle material celluliod lookin' so relatively old.. I don't know much about old blades so you might try the BLR subforum.

Don't use hard abrassive stuff and chemicals on oldies as this will ruin there collectability selling...

I wonder about your intentions Tobias.. I bet you would keep this one for your own sake ... JUST KIDDIN";)

I guess early 1920's from my findings so far.
Whats beneaths Boker Solingen . Looks like German D.

So made in Germany. Look out with Celluliod this stuff kindles/ignites like fuel....

Az is arizona so dry enviromnent i guess... 223x..

Do keep it 2 or 3 drops miniral oil moisturized every month in a zippy bag otherwize it might detiorate to much in this dessert environment. Especially the celluliod..might suffer more damage.
;)

Uhmm this confuces me even more.........
The handle mark looks way younger then the bladestamp. 1974 furthers.

Terry or Tobias... HELP:jerkit:

;)

I appreciate everone's effort.

Regardless of how old the expert collectors, and manufacturers decide it might be, it sure is a alot of fun trying to figure it out.:thumbup:

That's what keeps me buying these (possibly) old knives that I find. :)

Boker used that tang atamp at least through the 70's.

The stamping and the "Tree" shield with the word "SOLINGEN" would put this knife post-WWII.

I believe that the handle smight be delrin, they would have originall had a layer of brown or black coloring on top but I have seen similar handles bleached out like that before.

Huh?

I'm a jerk for buying this knife for $2 and asking about it on the forum?

Pardon me gentlemen for posting in your forum.I have been following this thread as well as the other thread in Mr Levines forum.

The handle mark looks way younger then the bladestamp. 1974 furthers.

I do not agree with this statement.Boker used the "Tree over Solingen" shield well before 1974 .Unless you wish to say the below knife is also a reblade.

All the knives shown here have been interesting&enviable!

I'm not sure that material is celluloid though,it gets in a really terrible state and messes up the surrounding metal with its fumes/gasses.Your knife looks in basically good shape.Could it be smooth bone?

I can't comment on the dating process but I wonder if really old knives would have Germany stamped on them and not Deutschland? Maybe the export models had Germany stamps? I notice in one of the pix Todd A shared with us, that it looks as if the Italian or Spanish word for Germany was stamped there too, interesting.

Great find for 2 dollars, I WANT one!
