My first boomstick

Is there a way to tell if a barrel is made of twisted steel? On the corroded parts of the barrel there almost seems to be a swirly pattern. The uncorroded bits just look like plain metal. Not sure if it came out in this picture.

My twisted brain sure sees it! I got you a box i started throwing in potential flints. What do they strike on steel? Pardon my ignoramousnessness pls.
