I am thinking of ordering a Custom shop Buck knife for EDC purposes, I'm thinking brass, smooth buffalo, finger cut outs, and Bucks famous 420HC
I've been wondering which is better for smaller hands, the classic 110 or the 112 Ranger

*I live very close to a knife shop (Big 5) and I'm thinking about walking there today to see if they'll let me handle both knifes*

Here I'm holding a Esse Zancudo

I'm also ordering a Victorinox Swisschamp with hardwood handles to pair with the Buck, both will be carried via belt.

I don't own either at this time but back in the 80's when everybody and their brother carried a 110, I carried a 112. I have small to medium size hands and I found the 112 more practical for my needs.

I normally like larger knives, but the 112 would be my preference, by a lot. The 110 is just too heavy and bulky for me, instead I'd just carry a fixed blade.

Thanks for the input, from what I read, the 112 would be my pick.

Nevermind on the part of going to the store, I watched a review, the 112 is 4-1/4" just like my Zancudo only slightly bigger and heavier.

Is there a way for my to contact Custom shop, to tell them what I want the scales to have "buffalo to have lots grey vs just plain black"
I've seen buffalo bone with streaks of grey, so that's why I like it.

Give them a call and talk to them. That would be your best bet. I added a custom to cart and went to check out and didn't see anywhere for "notes" to be added.
I've got big hands and I like the 112 because of the shape of its front bolster, it acts as a kind of guard.

Thanks I'll give them a call once I receive my funds :)

The finger grooves may be different between the two knives. I have 112's with finger grooves and they are about perfect and my preferance for my size ten gloved hands. The non finger groove 112's are good.

The non grooved 110 is good.

The decision for me was the finger grooves give a more secure grip, both are fine.

Whatever you order the Buck Custom Shop does a hell of a job, this is a Rams Horn I ordered last year. I have a preference for the 110.

Going to move this from Traditional to the Buck Forum. There's all sorts of folks there who have opinions about Buck knives and the 110 vs. 112 question.

If you have smaller hands, I would go for the 112. The 110 fits great in my larger hands and I have no problem pocket carrying it as I never carry my phone in my pocket.

Thank you for the continued input, I'll be belt carrying with a Swiss champ, and pocket carrying a Fenix E15 once I get my funds.
Probably won't be able to EDC a Buck 112 on campus but that's where the swiss champ will shine.

I checked in on the weight issue and it seems like that is not the case. If anyone knows more weigh in with your opinion. (pun intended)
The 420 HC on my custom shop 110's is fantastic.

I hear their 420 HC is fantastic, I don't like S30V because from what I heard, Its hard to sharpen and I use Arkansas stones.
Can't wait to receive my fund to fill out my order! :D

Have to call them about the scales too, I want them to be special.

If you use an Arkansas stone for sharpening, you do want to go with the 420HC.

If you go with the S30V, you'll need to switch to ceramic or diamond stones. I don't find S30V hard to sharpen using either of those.

Thank you all for your tremendous help, I have made my order and well its not what I thought I ever would get but..
I ordered a Buck 112, with Bucks classic 420HC, Brass bolster with rivets, finger grooves, and Heritage Walnut...
yes wood, I never thought I'd buy something with wood but I did ;)

Thank you all again! :D
