Hi,

Yesterday I received an Busse Basic 5 including the original leather sheath and one by Eric Noeldchen from a fellow Forumite.
The Busse is mint and has contray to a "normal" Basic 5 a double convex grind which the Busse shop seems to have done.
It's scary sharp as I just let the blade thouch my hand and the weight of the blade caused a nice superficial cut.

One thing I noticed however and I'm wondering about it; the grip on the Basic 5 is small, it fits my hand fine but when I wear a elk leather glove it's just a tad to small.
My hand is nowhere big rather medium- sized with rather short nicely filled

fingers.

I would have liked the grip to be bigger and also thicker so to have/get a better control of the "top" heavy knife.
A little more Cold Steel-isch grip like of the SRK or Master Hunter (fine thickness!) and keeping the counter of the Busse grip would improve the feel and grip control appreciable in my humble opinion.

I will get a second Basic knife the Busse Basic 9 and just hope that that grip is 1. bigger and 2. a little thicker (countered).

Am I the only one that has the above feeling ? or are there no medium+ to large sized knife lovers in the US.

Still it's a beast of a knife that will see good usage at scouting.
I already attached one of Eric Noeldchens Firesteel holders to the sheath and WOW it makes it a very nice compact package.

Bagheera,

Congrats on your first Busse Combat. Yes, you are correct, the handles of the Basic #3 and Basic #5 are smaller. This handle sizing has proven to be very popular and was based on years of feedback from customers as to handle size vs. blade size. However, the handles on the Basic #7 and Basic #9 are much larger. Welcome aboard.

Thanks Jerry,

It must be early in the US at this moment. That'll probably mean you have many knives to grind, so have to start early

Thanks for the info regarding the larger grips on the Basic 9.

I hope that in the future I'll be able to get my hands on one of the AfterShock satin finished Bolo knives but at $400+

(more then a weeks salary for somebody earning almost twice over modal income!) over here in Holland I will have to wait until somebody mentions me in his last will

Quality has it's price and you make it.

Well The 6" custom is probably mine already

with my suggested name "Base Camp" so that'll compensate a little for the missing AfterShock.
