My First Canal Street

I don't live in the US and I feel this could make sending them back tricky.. warranty may not be valid outside America. It could be that they naturally have weak springs.

I've got a pair to that I've been more than happy with but I do need a stockman yet.:D

:mad:OK, thanks alot to the OP!:mad::mad: Here I am happy in my blade flavors, with plenty of addiction streets to walk down....Case Street, Schatt and Morgan Street, Robeson Street, Buck Street, Schrade Street, Al Mar Street...etc, and now, I have added another street to walk down.....:D You said all the right things, American start up, fit and finish, D2, smooth bone....Thanks again....my bank account hates you!;)

I gotta say something here about the shields - I really like them. Good quality, nice color, and they don't look like anyone else's shields!

I'm odd man out here, and in a way I'm glad to be as other people have had good experiences with Canal St and I'm pleased for them. I have the single blade Half Moon Trapper in a higher line stainless, its jigging is nice, good too are the stainless liners,it looks a good knife,but...just open it. Where IS the spring and snap I ask myself? It is disaster weak in the extreme- even dangerous to use,in other words useless.I had a full size Trapper in D2 that had pathetic snap as well, the D2 belt knife has rough edges around the tang and scales which I don't find acceptable. I think belt knives should be smooth to the touch and not feel rough and sharp to hold. I realise others have had good experience and I don't quibble with that but I'm not chancing any more of my money on their knives. GEC make a very fine knife and without the drawbacks so that's my preference.

I also had a single blade half moon trapper. Very weak to almost no spring and snap. That was not all... it also had imho way too much play in the blade. If I'm going to lay out the fair amount of cash that they ask for their knives, play in the blade is not something I care for. I returned it and their customer service was less than stellar. Two months down the road I emailed them and inquired about my knife. No reply but the following week I did receive it back. No play but now it almost grinds when I open it. Still no spring or snap. I've bought several CS knives and even given them as gifts. This experience has soured me on them. There are other companies that would love to have my business.

I have one of their Half Moon Trappers that intially had a bit of side to side blade play that they immediately took care of for me. The knife is impeccable in quality with that one qualifier. Fit and finish are near as good as Northfield if not equal to it and I could not be happier with the knife, I got it from KSF and they have two handle options available.

I find it to be a classy "Sunday go to meetin'" knife.

Personally, I like the springs on them.

I think it is largely personal preference.

Here's my ring opener. I have been using it for an EDC ( in an AG Russell pouch)

I have a Cannitler with white mammoth, but I haven't brought myself to use/carry it yet. I am impressed with its F&F, though. Very nice knives & I also like the shield because of it being different than everyone else's.

I've got one of their Half-Moonpie trappers, and I love it. Very nice knife. No complaints at all with the F+F or quality.
