My first Busse.
My first strip and etch.
It was tough as it was cerakote.

From this

To this

All hand sanded.
Drilled out the tube and changed it with Titanium torx screws.

Added a thin spacer

Not sure if it is due to the cerakote coating, noticed that the handle was not coated at all.
It was rusting badly, had to sand it too.
Dont have power tools, so not able to remove the pitting.

All thanks to the information and sharing in the forum.
It was fun stripping, but it should be my last cerakote.
Need to find a sand blaster.

Comments and suggestion welcomed.

what are the size of the screws used and where did you get them?

Nice job! I passed on the cerakoted knives because I knew I'd want to strip them, but didn't want to deal with it. The typical coating/ decarb is enough work; I'm essentially a lazy man.

Could you tell if there was decarb under this coating, or did they have to remove it to apply the cerakote?

yeah ceracoat is a bitch to strip, better off hand sanding it off or blasting. duracoat not so bad with chem.

There was decarb on it too. Tool marks and uneven surfaces. A real bitch to work on. Need to find a bead blaster next time.

Time to do some sharpening, whats the recommended sharpening tool? I only have the Japanese whetstone and leather strop.

Really nice job !!

Boy I don't like hearing about the rust under handle :-( I have same blade napping in the safe.
My BG BJ took the user role.

If you search sharpening there's a lot of info here. From what I read wicked edge, edge pro, and the system from Russia. The one from Russia I can't remember the name. But it it looks pretty serious
Hope that helps

The scales was also coated. So no choice, hand smoothen scales to reveal the true color

They came out great. I asked because I have an BG Urban Grudge I'm planning on stripping...coated scales as well...I'm assuming (hopeful) they are micarta. I'm guessing they would only use micarta vs G-10 if slated for coating..less expensive material, that should take coating easier...just not sure..

Again, nice work

Edited to ask: You hand sanded w/ out using any solution .....Jasco/CitriStrip?

I have 3 cerakote knives and just sanded out my SOS handle and it is black and tan g10
And my trail scalpel has blue and black g10 under the coating. You can sometimes see if it is g10 on the top or bottom edges of the handle the g10 will have black stripes. Out of my 3 cerakote blades only 1 is micarta

Just noticed that I didn't answer your earlier question.

Yes they are micarta for the boss jack which I hand sanded both the blade and scales without any solution.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Wow..multi colored G-10..that's pretty cool...A member found Tigerhide under some coating a few years ago..

That's it..The UG will be the next project, for sure.

Thanks for the info, exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks you too, KXAL
