My first custom. A Dozier!

I've taken the first step down a road...
where it leads I do not know.
I ordered my first custom:

http://www.knifeart.com/agdoztac.html

It's not the first custom I've ever OWNED. I got a Snody necker in a trade once and I know a beginner knifemaker that gave me a knife once. But it IS the first one I researched, found and shoveled the $$$ over for. It'll be in my paws on Monday.

The long list was in order of preference:
Agent
Companion
Straight Personal
Canoe
K-9 Personal Utility
Bodyguard
Reverse Tanto
Arkansas Toothpick
Slim Outdoorsman

Shortened it to these based on size and carry method:
Agent
Companion
Straight Personal
Canoe

And then I saw that cool plain-black Agent on KA and couldn't stand it any more!

D2 is my favorite steel. I don't use a fixed blade very often at all, but I figured if I can get a small concealable one I can hide under a shirt or stick in a jacket inside pocket it would finally give me an excuse to buy a Dozier. :D

So, whaddaya think? Pretty good choice for a first custom?;)

P.S. Anybody got a pic of what the FRONT of this horizontal sheath looks like?

Excellent choice! I have several Doziers and I like and use them all. For all around fixed blades they are hard to beat.

fulloflead,
You did good!! The Dozier Slim Outdoorsman was my 1st custom.

I THOUGHT you might reply to this thread! I only read about two dozen of your posts when I was researching my choice.;)

Great choice. My first custom was a Dozier Straight Personal. Wonderful knives!!!

Nice choice. A Dozier "Master Skinner" was my first custom. I now have two Doziers and plan to order a Dozier "Canoe" before summer.:p

My first custom was a Dozier too (a lengthened #6 with extended guards). The only problem I've had is that it nearly ruined me for other fixed blades. :D

The Agent strikes me as a great choice for your intended purposes. It should be small enough to stay out of your way, but big enough to deal with almost any job. 3-1/2" of Dozier D2 is a lot of blade!

I've got the Dozier Canoe and Wilderness Knife, coincidentally both with brass pinned green micarta! :D They make a beautiful set.

Dozier's prices are so reasonable, they make the quintessential starter custom knife. People can afford them and don't feel like they are emptying the wallet. And sometimes they are not that much more than some production knives. Getting more and more is where it starts to run into some money, though.

This is true. Too bad it's such a jump up to a folder.:(

Bob Dozier makes no BS, working knives in D2 that have an excellent reputation for cutting ability. I have owned a few and have a special K4 Straight Hunter on order which should be here in a couple of months.

Use it for a day or two and you'll probably love them the way a lot of us already do :)

My first handmade knife was a Dozier Straight Personal. I skinned many deer and wild boar with that knife and I can say it stayed sharper longer than any other knife I had. I gave that knife to my dad and currently have a Dozier Agent that I have been carrying for 4 years. Bob really knows what he is doing with his grinding and heat treat.

Had a Dozier Agent one time............can't figure why I ever got rid of it?  It is a great size and a great knife!!:) :) :)

It's funny to see so many people chose Bob for their first custom. Me too! Started with his K1 General Utility and went on to a PGK. Love them both. My PGK is the perfect "take out to the field" knife....Not too big. Not too small. Not too heavy. Not too light. Perfect!
