Hey all, I have been on the search for a great custom folder for quite some time. My EDC for the last couple of years now has been a Lg. Regular Sebenza, and I thought that was about the last word in fit and finish.....

I finally found a good custom knife though at one KILLER price, so I couldnt pass it up....

I picked up a Kirby Lambert Spearpoint model, with flat-weave carbon fiber scales and Damasteel bolsters. It has a CPM 154 blade and an Onyx thumbstud.....

It is gorgeous! I took the pictures as soon as I got the knife (well after doing a little extra polishing to the edge [just my tastes though, this knife was a scalpel when I got it]), so they were taken hastily on a white towel in my room. I will take some better shots when I get better lighting tomorrow. I was just so thrilled with this knife I felt I had to share ASAP!!!

This knife locks up like no other I have had before (exception of an XM-18), and is really surprising to me, because the other knives I had before that were the rock solid ones were a SMF, and my Sebenza. I thought for sure that there was no way to make a liner-lock as robust as a framelock, especially with thinner Ti liners than those of the aforementioned knives.....

It feels so nice and solid, I want to beat it like my Seb, but I think this one is going to be relagated to lighter cutting chores, as I cannot imagine needing to use this knife too hard while still carrying the Seb.....

This isn't my first custom knife however, I am a Balisong FREAK! I have owned a number of Shaun Gracen (balibalistic) balisongs, as well as Korth, and a Terry Guinn. I was overly impressed by the small details that most custom makers have over a standard production balisong, but even some of the small little "character" marks on some customs make them that much more unique, more personal if you will.

After deciding that I really like supporting a craftsman perfecting his trade, I knew that the next folder I purchased had to be custom.... Now I'm hooked.

This is my first post in Custom & Handmade Knives, and surely not the last.

Great first custom(folder)! You are right to support custom makers. I try to avoid buying from dealers and prefer buying from the makers themselves, or forum members.

(Hopefully) not to sidetrack, but I think he was referring to supporting a custom maker versus production company, not custom maker versus dealer. Dealers play an important role in the custom knife community, IMHO.

rangerover - it's easy to understand your enthusiasm. Kirby is a fine maker and an all around great guy. You have picked up a very nice example of his work - congrats and enjoy! By all means, post more pics when you can.

Ahh, I see :)

I have drastically curbed my buying of production as well.
