I have always liked traditional knives as a "second knife" but had never invested much time or money in picking one. Lately I have been getting bored with my contemporary/tactical/? folders and started looking at traditional folders again. The more I look, the more interested I am in the whole genre. Yesterday i ordered a really nice little stag swayback by John Lloyd and thought I would post a few pictures. I welcome comments both pro and con about this knife so I can start to learn more about this type of knife.

The stag is stunning and Lloyd makes great knives they are lookers as well as users. Congrats on the new knife. You are entering an endless world knives.

Thanks for the comments. I also felt the stag was beautiful and so well match from side to side.

PROS: Totally agree with Mike and epetrillo!!:thumbup: The blade shape and overall shape of the knife are incredibly attractive!
CONS: I can hardly breathe when I look at those photos!! :(:rolleyes:

Congrats on an outstanding knife!!

What a fantastic looking knife. I can't think of anything negative to say about that choice, except it will be harder (and possibly more expensive) to improve on that!

The Swayback is a great pattern, John Lloyd is a great maker and that stag is awesome. Congratulations on acquiring a fine traditional pocket knife.

Definitely a stunning knife. John Lloyd does a fantastic job with stag, in my opinion, and your knife is a perfect example of this. It looks very well matched, and the curve of the canyon on both sides following the curve of the knife is a nice touch. Very nice choice.

That's a helluva way to dive into traditional collecting!

And like everyone above me... I see ZERO cons here!

I loved the stag as soon as I saw it but hesitated because I wasn't sure about the no bolster look. I am being won over though and I won't even have it in my hands until Monday. I understand that the lack of a bolster in this knife makes it a "shadow" style, is that correct? Does it pose any structural issues?

Great first!!!! John makes some cool stuff and is a master at choosing and using all kinds of different cover materials. His knives have real soul. Watch out....before you know it you'll have a few more!:thumbup::D

I have to echo all the other comments.......wow...wow...wow!!! What am I seeing in the last post...mill relieved liners ( the semi circle around the tang )?

Thanks for that and the stag description ....no wonder! I have read that Mr. Lloyd sources some fine stuff:thumbup:
