My first EDC fixed blade

If you dont mind me asking, which Kershaw did you handle? I owned a fixed blade Skyline and aside from the leather sheath which I dont much care for it is a great knife. Dont get me wrong, the sheath is functional and it works but I am probably gonna use it as an opportunity to try my hand at working with Kydex

I also like the Becker BK14, and the ESEE 3.

it was this one I believe

Benchmade has a new line of hunting knives that look promising. The Hidden Canyon Hunter sports a 2.6" S30V blade and G10 handles. $114.00 pre-order

It does not sound like open/belt carry is a problem, but make sure you understand local laws regarding knife carry.

One of my favorite inexpensive knives ($45) is the Kershaw Diskin Hunter. Ergonomics are great, G10 scales, adequate steel. Leather pouch sheath is functional, but may not have enough retention for your purposes. Blade length is 4 5/8", and might be larger than you want. But this knife is an exceptional value.

Some of the KA BAR BK suggestions would serve you well. Find the one that fits your size requirements, and move forward with confidence. I never heard the words "go to work in an office" so belt carry should be adequate for your purposes. Again, check local laws.

Ok, not a bad blade but if you are looking for something just a little bigger myself like the other one on that page on the side, the Field Hunter. Personally I love the 14c28N steel that Kershaw blades use. Its holds an edge well enough for me and I have found it is one of the easiest blade steels for me to sharpen.

Also looking at your price range I would also suggest the new Benchmade fixed blades. Benchmade makes a great product and I really like the design of the Hunt series plus they are gonna be making them in a few different styles. The only thing is they are a pre-order item and you may be wanting something sooner.

Bushido, that Benchmade looks pretty good to me. Maybe I'll see one in person at the knife store in the coming months. I want to see how it feels.

To the OP, take a look at the Spyderco Moran. It is a very nice knife (good knife too) and the sheath system is adjustble from horizontal to vertical. When I wear it, I generally have the knife canted at about 45 degrees on my weak side. They offer two blade shapes and I feel one would fit your needs.

The Puma SGB line is another you might consider. I have the Elk Hunter which is a pretty nice knife overall. They come with a normal vertical leather sheath. They're made with 440A steel as I recall and I suspect one would work for you.

No sir, I work construction/general contracting during the day, (I can get away with having a sword if I play it right :-) )at night I work at a Lead smelter. I speak to a few different police agency friends of mine. Just because the law allows it, doesn't mean they won't give me grief about it.

I'm going to look into the BK line up some more as well as the others on the list. Thank You All for the help. I will post here my descion.
Note: someone posted a Japanese that was beautiful. Sooooooo pretty...I don't know how to multi quote on here yet...I would buy it but it was out of stock..

The S30V blade for just over a hundred dollars makes it a winner in my book. Like you, I want to handle one first.

In that price range I'd say the ESEE Izula or Izula II would be your best bet for size , quality and price . My first fixed blade EDC was an Izula . If you wanted to move up to something between $200 and $240 , this is my EDC knife . 6 5/8" long , 3" drop point blade , 5/32" thick and Busse's INFI steel

HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS !

I have soapy questions. But I don't know where to start.
Ok here are my specs
~3" blade
Might as well be drop point with no serrations.
That's it lol
I don't know a lot about steel types for blades or much else.
I own a few fixed blades by their pretty big for my needs. I have a SOG seal pup, and a Gerber prodigy, as well as a timber wolf dagger. Nothing major. I like the seal pup feels well balanced and I can handle it well.
I usually carry a folder. But I've had one fail on me once. And I don't want that to happen twice.
I handled a kershaw today, the blade felt....thin and brittle... Am I incorrect? They don't have the BK series. I'm not sure how they feel in my hand.
It's for normal everyday tasks, a secondary purpose of defense.
I'm used to bigger knives and thicker ones.
You know as I write this I realize how stupid it sounds of me to think the kershaw won't handle what I'm asking it to do.

I would take

BRKT lil canadian in 3V or the upcoming BRKT essential II in 4V

I recommend the ESEE Izula II. I really love mine, and ESEE has a great warranty.
