I picked up my first Emerson, a 2013 Mini CQC-7BW, today, and I see what all the fuss is about. :) In that way it reminds me of the Case Peanut: I kept hearing that there was just something about them, particularly in yellow Delrin, but until I held one in my hand I didn't get it. Now I get it.

Right out of the box, it felt like mine; it demands to be used. There's something un-lovely about it that I absolutely love, if that makes any sense. The ergonomics are superb. It fits my hand (size L glove) like it was made just for me, and feels good in every grip.

I can't wait to see what it's like once it's broken in a bit, and I'm looking forward to using the hell out of it. :)

Nice--well done man. A super 7 is my edc... and yes, it is overkill. But I like for all its un-lovelyness too... great way to put it. The only problem for you now is that it may be your first of many. Enjoy it!

IMHO that is a great "generation" of the Mini7 - grippy G10 (nicely radiussed on yours BTW), backspacer, probably dual thick liners (I'm guessing). Congrats on a great start.

Thank you! :)

Correct on all counts! (I'm impressed by your eyeballing!) I'm still learning the differences between production "eras" -- until you mentioned it, I didn't realize unequal liner thickness was a thing.

Thank you! :)

Your username. I saw what you did there!
😉

Congrats. 7 all the way. Mine also was the first knife I've owned out of millions that's "mine."

Nice way with words by the way. Looking forward to some entertaining reads.

Just like Farmer's Insurance, I know a thing or two because I've seen a thing or two. [insert jingle here]

Thanks again, everyone!

Today I found that the Mini 7 carries quite well in shorts (well enough that I barely felt it), and learned that if you accelerate the breaking-in period by opening and closing it dozens of times with the disk, you get "Emerson thumb."

I'm not sure I'll be able to use the tip of my right thumb for much tomorrow . . . but that won't stop me from enjoying this knife. :D

Very nice new addition, sir :)

Thanks! A month later, it's still my EDC -- no rotation, just the Mini.

Today I wasn't paying quite enough attention when closing it, and I accidentally sliced off the tip of my thumb. :D This little beast has one of the sharpest factory edges of any knife I've owned.

I took the tip of my thumb with a 7V one time. It was so sharp that it took almost no pressure when closing the blade. Couldn't use that thumb for weeks. Hope yours isn't as bad as mine was.

How is the bevel edge on yours? My mini 7 was about 36 degrees or so, maybe steeper, but mine is partially serrated, and I'm wondering if that affected the bevel during the fabric sharpening
