Well after all these years of using knives i had to visit the er. I sharpened my old gerber knife to give my brother cause i dont use it anymore since i got my bm mini-grip. Anyway it shaved hair pretty good, it sliced paper pretty well, so i wanted to try cutting a free hanging hair. So i went and got one of my wives hairs and cut it once, twice, oh crap!! Right through the side of my and into my index finger. So three hours later we left the er.

If this were Wine & Cheese I'd be able to offer you the appropriate advice.

;) :)

I can sympathise though, while cutting a cable tie with my Sebbie I manage to slice the top right off one of my knuckles, needed a skin graft!

were you cutting hair too macgregor?
they actually didnt stitch mine just wrapped it in gauze.
A skin graft my gosh I got off easy.

I cut mine while sharpening it with a crock stick...5 stitches.................Real smart.....

Hope your finger heals soon. Never cut myself bad enough to need medical attention but being a gun-nut I had an AD and killed my television  I'm sure my wife will be just as impressed when I have an accident with one of my knives. :o

I stabbed myself in the hand with a mini Leatherman once. Pretty humiliating way to earn a few stitches :)

Last time I had something that needed treating was pitting an avocado 5 miles into a hike. My Delica went straight through the pit and sliced open my hand just below the index finger. Had to tear a strip off my shirt to make a dressing, and hike back to camp with my hand held above my head :D

I guess there's no way to cut yourself that doesn't make you look and feel like an idiot! :P

Holygoat that was really the worst part last night holding my hand up int the air for three hours.

Well im really not alone apparently this happens alot more than i thought to the people on here.

Mine was real bright as well...a couple years ago, I was cleaning the case I keep my knives in. I was putting some of them in my hand to move them...they were all closed of course. I forgot about this Microtech "knock-off" switchblade I used to have though...it was on the bottom of the little pile of 4 or 5 knives in my open left hand. I kept that knife razor sharp...and totally forgot that it had a "hair-trigger" release button on it (heck a stiff breeze could force it to open..lol). Needless to say...the weight of the knives activated the blade...and 4 inches of very sharp steel exploded into my fingers. About 9 stitches later on my middle and ring finger and one on my palm and I realized how foolish I had been. I traded the knife away shortly thereafter...that was my "duh" moment in knife collecting.

now you can call yourself a knife nut. who cares how many you have if you dont have atleast ONE good story to tell about how they bodily harmed you :D get well soon though:thumbup:

The bad thing about this is that when they do the statistics your injury will be counted as a knife injury. Some left wing nut organization will use the stats against all of us to ban all knives!!!!!

Yeah, there's no one else to blame is there??

And
tcrace: ....being a gun-nut I had an AD and killed my television....

No such thing as an AD. Everything is a Negligent Discharge. Your fault all the way!

Man kestrel that sounds bad. I think the worst thing is hindsight and just realizing what in the world was i thinking. Just have to be more careful i guess. Keep posting these stories it makes me feel better, hehe. I enjoy reading them.

Nothing strange or unusual here.

We have ALL done this. Usually, multiple times.

Believe me, it's nothing compared to what a good, solid motorcycle accident can do to and for you!
