My first er visit

Ouch. You'd think people who collect knives would know how to not do things like this, but I sure don't.

About 9 stitches later on my middle and ring finger and one on my palm and I realized how foolish I had been. I traded the knife away shortly thereafter...that was my "duh" moment in knife collecting.

Mysteriously, the man he traded it to was never heard from again.

I wouldn't want an OTF with a hair trigger in my pocket, that could end WAY worse than what happened to you.

You are so right...I NEVER put that thing in my pocket. I think I traded it to "cutlery lover" on this site, if memory suits me correctly...I believe he is still lurking about...lol.

What did you tell the people in the ER? Did you tell them the truth or did you clean up the story a bit? I would tell you the story about the time I was playing with my Recon Tanto and it slipped out of my hand and hit blade down on my foot, piercing right through the instep. And how I gritted my teeth, and while trying to get it out of my foot, snapped the blade right where it went into the grip! And how I finally got it out, cleaned the wound up with some whisky and sewed it up with some dental floss...yes, I would tell you that...if it were true, but of course, it isn't. Still, I thought it would make you feel better. :D

Naw, I've never cut or stabbed myself with any of my knives.:D.;).:D.

Cutting yourself is one thing... I was slicing through some plastic tubing and slid off the table and poked my nosy labrador right on the snout. Man - I was sick after doing that to him. It was just a poke and could have been worse - but I sure felt like a dumb-a$$. He got to sleep on the bed that night... all forgiven.

I've had some cuts, but no scars yet. almost slit right down my wrist vein, but i was off by a cm or so. that was a scary cut to look at, sooooo close to a MAJOR ER visit.

Heal up. It happens to all of us. It should've came with a box of bandages huh? :D
afterdark if you order from new graham.com they send a bandaid holder that has a magnet on it for the fridge. pretty cool actually.

I went back to work today im a mechanic so i took a day off to hopefully let it heal up a bit. Anyway I got to hear some pretty good stories today also. One of the guys is like confederates story I just never believe anything he says. Hes the type of guy that no matter what you say he has to one up you.
In fact one day I told him how when I got my mini grip it came from the factory hair whittling sharp. He immediately said yeah i keep all my knives that sharp. yet he doesnt even carry a knife, he uses one of those utility blades you can break off to get to a sharp one again. I started to ask how he sharpened them what method he used and stuff, but I just let it go.

Knives are a relatively safe hobby for me. I haven't broken any bones, had multiple concussions, gotten stitches or knocked out any teeth like I have with one of my other hobbies.... :D

I do get the occaisonal poke or minor cut...that's all. Dumbest one I did was whittling some shavings for a fire with a Vic Nylon Solo. Set it down, said something to my friend, then picked it up to whittle again but had the edge up. Smart move.

One of my friends flipped open a CS voyager. Slipped out of his hand and whacked the back of his hand. I didnt think anything of it until I saw that it made a 3 inch gash and severed 3 tendons. Surgery and 25 stitches later I bet he doesnt do that again.

Thankfully, all of my many knife accidents were relatively minor - none serious enough to require medical attention. It's proabably good to read a few knife horror stories every now & then, though - a good reminder to always stay safe. But like someone said earlier, knives are probably a whole lot safer than riding a motorcyle (or hangliding, swimming, skiing, or even driving your car to a knife show).

I was whittlin' w/ my 610 the other day, it slipped and i cut a diagonal chunk off the end of my middle finger, the fingernail in the way didn't even slow it down:D forunately It sliced barely above the bone and not the bone it's self, anyways, I wrapped it and went to bed. the next day people told me I should get antibiotics from the docter so i visited them and although they didn't think I needed any antibiotics(and they were right) they gave me a product called AQUACELL to act like gause and tegaderm for the sticky part. This was worth it in it's self these are both marvolous products the Aquacell in particular. It is made of seeweed and when it is exposed to liquid(like blood) it forms a gel that sticks to the injury, forming an artificial scab like layer over the cut. the new flesh can heal directly into this layer so you never have to peal the initial layer off and reopen the cut (unlike gause) anyways two weeks later and my finger is as good as new, with a new interesting flat spot (I'm hoping it fleshes out) check it out it is avalible to the public though expensive, except if you get your insurance to cover it:D, but work phenomanally:thumbup: anyways hope everything heals up clean, best of luck:):)
