My first ESEE...An RC5

I've had alot of knives over the years with similar tension screws and I find the more I have to use the screws the faster the kydex loosens. It's just a losing battle I don't want to have to face after four months of regular use. Cordura and leather are both completely viable options that are QUIET, good looking and offer solid retention.

My only issue with the Eagle sheath is the pull here/dot/ whatever they are snaps never really worked for me. Otherwise it's an absolutely bombproof sheath.

Aye I don't even use them, the sheath itself is tight enough to retain the blade, I can tip the sheath upside down and jerk it without the blade falling out. Unless I'm doing something precarious with a higher probability of losing stuff, it rides "loose".

Ah, mine isn't that tight. I'm considering cutting the top one off and having the bottom snap replaced at a leather shop. But, the kydex is working for me so far. I do think part of the issue with loosening over time is the micarta handles wearing in too. But having the Eagle backup is nice too. It's easily the best made non-kydex sheath I own.

One question I do have about it, Why is the strap on the clip so long? I've looked at that for seemingly hours...and I cant come up with anything.

Retention I guess? I don't know but those snaps are pretty freakin rediculous. Pretty sure I have clubbed thumb bones from working this sheath :D better tight than loose.

Yea they're nuts...but you know they're not coming off on accident.

As for the strap, I mean the one on the plastic clip over the pouch. There's about 6" there and I just don't get it. Gotta be a reason

OOOH... roger. I figured it was to cover a piggybacked knife. You can shove the kydex sheath of a smaller blade in the pouch and use the long strap to cover up and over the handle down to the clip.

Makes sense. Figured it was some kinda of cargo deal, but hadn't thought of a knife. Now I'm almost thinking folding saw....
