A quick etch to see what we've got.

With the guard

JD-Dagger-37.JPG

Time to layout the ferrule and start the handle

JD-Dagger-38.JPG

Slotted the ferrule

JD-Dagger-39.JPG

Ground to shape

JD-Dagger-40.JPG

fit in place

JD-Dagger-41.JPG

I layout the filework on a piece of masking tape to transfer to the curved surface of the ferrule

JD-Dagger-42.JPG

Light passes with a triangle file used to start the filework

JD-Dagger-43.JPG

rough filework done

JD-Dagger-44.JPG

now drill clear through the handle material (alternative ivory, I'm not quite ready for the high dollar stuff)

JD-Dagger-45.JPG

Fit up to the tang

JD-Dagger-46.JPG

A little bit of taper ground in

JD-Dagger-47.JPG

Braze on a threaded rod for the butt plate

JD-Dagger-48.JPG

first dry fit, nifty

JD-Dagger-49.JPG

now take the handle material off to layout for the flutes

JD-Dagger-50.JPG

ghetto layout jig

JD-Dagger-51.JPG

string is handy

JD-Dagger-52.JPG

Light passes with the triangle file again to start our flutes

JD-Dagger-53.JPG

and then with the chainsaw file to finish the flutes

Thanks for sharing your construction, of this fine looking dagger.

I am working on two feather pattern billets at this time; one is for a dagger; you have inspired me:thumbup:
