I finally found the time to do my first figure four trap and actually got it to work. I use some branches that I cut down from my tree in my backyard. Dead of course. :).
So here are a couple of pics that I took. Sorry for the quality of the pics.

I tested it out and tripped it. I found that I needed to use a couple sticks hammered into the ground on each side of the box of horseshoes game just to keep it falling straight down without hampering it in any way.

Of course, I had to put in a shot of the tools I used.:D
Now for the knife shot.

Needless to say I will trying out more trap configurations and practicing making them. :D

Nice Job!!!

Now you just need to set it up with the clothes basket and try to catch your cat(or the neighbors cat).

Nice Puukko!!!

That's funny that you say that. My wife told my mother in law that I made a dead fall trap and she says she needs a cage big enough to catch a ground hog.

Good job, GEC. Too often this forum is about the latest knife, etc., and too seldom about skills.

Thanks. I'm going to practice a lot more and maybe post some more methods with pics.

That's great!
Doc is right. More skills posts would be worthwhile.
Does anyone have a video or website to recommend for learning more about figure 4 traps?

In about 12 days your gonna be learning from one of the best. Kevin showed me once and it has stuck. I have made a bunch since then.

Good stuff. Nice to see somebody playing around with the old skills and keeping them alive.

Hey coote, how's it going, bro?

Goin' alright thanks DOC. Had quite a storm here yesterday. We fared well at my place, but maybe 10 trees got blown over at my mothers. One smashed window, and some damage to a roof. I was up on the roof trying to get rid of the branches so I could nail the roofing iron back down. Danged chainsaws not working well, and a bit risky using them on the roof anyway, Used my 17 inch Ang Khola for a start, then a bow saw. I ended up tying the bow saw to a stick and reaching over the edge of the roof to cut branches. I tied it to the stick with three Ashley constrictor knots and man I was impressed with how it held.

Gotta go back to mom's this morning to do more cleaning up..... possibly three days work for my brother and I. Hopefully the insurance company will cough up.
