So im looking to pick up my first good fixed blade knife. Ive owned well over hundred folders now but really know nothing about fixed blades. Looking for something in 4 or 5 inch range to carry on my belt for light to med EDC use. Also plan to carry it when walking my dog late at night so I will want something I can protect myself with if need be. Looking to spend 100-120$

Hey bud! I'd say pick up a Spyderco Mule MT18 when they come out on Feb 5th and you can do up your own scales or have a pair done by any number of guys here on BF. Like BellaBlades, Rival, ShepardCC, lots of these guys can handle it.

It's a lot of fun doing it yourself though - makes for a good story and something you can have some pride in.

Better get in line though, they go FAST.

I personally would carry something smaller like a skyline, essee izula,or a The Montie Gear Ultra-light, heck even a kabar tdi. but for that size my first thoughts are a Becker Bk2, a glock 78, or the original defensive knife the Kabar USMC.

Not personally big into the defensive carry fixed blades, the smaller ones are ones i EDC for a utility purpose

Also I think I would like to have something with a nice wooden handle.....would this take me into custom jobs?

It is always a good idea to have a look at the custom maker's area here - there is often some really nice stuff and it can be very reasonably priced.
The 4"- 5" blade is quite a lot for an edc fixed blade unless your circumstances require it. Remember fixed blades are much stronger so you can really do a lot with a short blade.
Let us know how it goes :)

+1

Check out the knifemakers market here. Lots of great custom fixed blades in your price range and even more if you can jump to $150 or so.

Well maybe 5 inches is alittle to much......like u guys said 3 to d maybe more like it after some thought.

Buck Vanguard,Zipper, Case Finn, these are nothing fancy but very good knives that won't leave you broke. If you want to dress it yourself you can't go wrong with Green River.
God Bless

Spyderco Street Beat, 3.5in blade or Street Bowie 5in ish blade. I don't have the Bowie but want one myself. The Street Beat is a great knife. Carries discreetly with enough blade to handle edc tasks. It'll be a little more than $120 unless you find a good deal on one. The Bowie is under $100, closer to $85 i think. The Beat has nice smooth micarta handles and the Bowie is frn maybe, i can't recall off the top of my head.

Dude, get an ESEE. I have two and I am more then satisfied. I have literally never heard of anyone complain about them.
