My first fixed blade

I believe he meant 7cr17, which is the Chinese equivalent of 440A or AUS6. I do believe Gerber uses it. It is a perfectly good, serviceable steel. To be honest, I actually like it better than AUS6 (easier to sharpen, and seems to hold an edge better), and on par with 440A as used done better companies. Like almost every other steel, it all comes down to heat treat and grind. Nice looking knives, by the way.

I'm not sure if it's the same steel as gerber's "mystery surgical steel",but yes it's a serviceable steel which has good combination property. Not the best but not bad.

Thats a nice piece of work, and at under $50 I would put it on my wish list for sure. A simple paracord handle would work great, but if you aren't great at wrapping handles, you could sell them with a length or 550 cord and easily attachable scales giving the buy the choice to use either or. Just an idea...

Thank you for your encouragement friends, thanks

I did a little change for the shape, alittle shorter handle and longer edge.
overall 195mm

The blade profile and handle size and shape other than the first finger indexing look almost identical to the HEST, with different bells and whistles. I like 1095 better.

How do you figure that? ....You may want to look at them again, because other than being of similar length they have little in common. Blade and handle are both completely different.

Holding my HEST up to the screen right now. The blade profiles are identical other than a sharpened swedge. The contour at the first finger leading up around the ricasso and to the blade is identical, and the ramp is extremely close. Shorten the handle a hair and the prybar/pommel/guard lines up and the only real difference you have in design between these two knives is an indexed forefinger and a slight sweep to the rest of the handle.

So, the handle shapes are different, the blade shapes are different and the overall styling is completely different yet you're still saying they're similar knives?

Seriously? Come on now. To say that's pushing it is a massive understatement.

There's dozens of knives that look like dozens of other knives , so what ? Eventually you're gonna run out of shapes without looking a little similar in some fashion , so if you are implying that is a copy of the HEST you need to either get glasses or stop smoking so much bro....

jikangchen , great design , it's a lot bigger than I thought it was until I saw it in hand. Impressive ! That sort of knife very much appeals to me.

To the folks who see this and get bent out of shape , you all better wake up and realize that it is a big world we live in and there are a lot of knife lovers , even in China... It is only a matter of time before high quality offerings are made all over the world for non-bigoted knife enthusiasts to enjoy.
After all , smiths in China were making top quality swords many , many centuries before Columbus even sailed to this part of the world.

Keep up the great work jikangchen ! I look forward to seeing more progress :)

Hi friends
Thank you for looking my thread, Thank you for discussing my knife, and Thank you for your encouragement for me.

I'm so sorry, there's not much break through in this knife,it's a very simple normal and common blade. It can't be much different from others,I just want to make a useful knife,it must has handle and edge. For the shape,I draw on paper, then cut hard paper board to feel the sense in hand, then draw it in CAD with bezier, then cut it in 4mm steel sheet, feel and redraw in CAD,and so on.I'm still so sorry for no much change from other knives, maybe only some details are modified with my personal appreciation of the beauty.

Maybe I will bring you some with more difference later, like this penguin,I name it penguin.it's my second design after my guitar.

At the beginning,I want to make high performance titanium Penguin, but I have some problem with shape changing while heat-treating.So this blade come early before Penguin.

And Tostig and other friends,I will not give up for ever.I'm a knife lover for 30years(I don't remember too much before 2years old, maybe I should say 32 years here),I will bring you new pics later.but I can't say too much,It's cost me 1hour to write so much english words.

Thank you friends.

Thank you friends.

That guitar looks like a great concept for a Ti keychain tool.

CHEN, those are some truely nice designs of yours.
I especially love the superb curves and handy style in the first design of the 3 fixed blades.
The penguin caught me, too. It looks QT and comfortable as a user in daily life.
And I have to say the Guitar is one of the best stuff I ve ever seen among our communities.
I hope you stick on your own heart w/ enthusiasm and just move ahead.
