Good luck, I had the same problem with mine, I tried as hard as I could and couldnt loosen or tighten the pivot, there is no way to hold the opposite side from spinning. Very annoying.
I ended up filing a slot in the opposing side in order to hold it from spinning. Kind of ruined the knife resale value but I did get it apart. Very frustrating - no amount of pressure could hold it. I even tried clamping it down against a reduced shape pencil eraser and various cabinet door bumpers that I modified. Finally had no choice but to quit (that would have been a good call) or file in the slot.
