I apologize in advance for the word-to-picture ratio.

This forum has quickly become my favorite to visit, read and ogle pictures. The atmosphere here is unparalleled, devoid of most of the non-sense that comes in waves elsewhere. Thanks to all of you regulars and mods who set the tone.

Only last year did I start carrying my first traditional (not counting SAK). You might say I was a late bloomer. I have developed a real appreciation for carbon steel blades, the walk and talk, the craftsmanship and the feel of a quality slipjoint in hand and pocket. I somehow missed the scout & beer scout offerings this summer. I was kicking myself because a sheepsfoot blade and caplifter/screwdriver basically describes my perfect knife.

For a couple of months I have been trying in vain to get one from the exchange. I cannot always get online, and most seem to be snapped up in minutes, not hours or days.

A member here, Modoc Ed, contacting me last weekend requesting my mailing address. This was out of the blue as Ed and I had never had a previous discussion. On Wednesday this week, a beautiful Beer Scout arrived in its tube at my home. Ed gifted me his knife, with few words other than he wanted nothing in return. To put it mildly, I am humbled by this act. In spite of my longtime love of pocket knives, nobody has ever given me a folder. I am not deserving of Ed's generosity, but honestly moved by it.

Here is my new daily carry. Absolutely fantastic. You’ll see more (and better) pictures from me when I actually get outside in the daylight.

Thank you again Ed.

awesome story, thanks for sharing! it's amazing what an act of kindness can do. there truly still are good people left in this world, and it's really uplifting to hear something like this!

I recently got my first as well, and I love it. it finds its way into my pocket every day.

That's how they get you!

I was hooked by Flymon sending me a GEC out of the blue!

Great story. I have never had direct dealings with Ed. By reading his posts I get the impression that he's one of those guys that has a rough exterior, and nothing but the highest of characters underneath. I have been the recipient of similar kindness here several times, and I have to say that it's a very humbling experience every time. I love the knife. In my opinion the beer scout is a fun pattern, and the glow in the dark scales match it perfectly.

What was I gonna do? He said he didn't have a GEC knife and on top of that he was looking for a specific one and couldn't find it, so......................... I sent him one.

It's good to see that sometimes fairy tales happen:thumbup:

Good lookin' blade, the people here in traditional are some of the greatest, most knowledgeable and generous folks out there, real old school traders and story tellers. ;)

Go Navy! "A force for Good"

(You should pardon the line I filched from a recent Navy recruiting series of commercials.)
